Terrain generator down?Hello all, I have been struggling with the terrain generator. For some reasons, the status stays as 'queued', and it seems as if the service is down. Has the terrain generator been working for anybody recently? Regards, Thomas ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out the new SourceForge.net Marketplace. We get waypoint images from another web site, http://onearth.jpl.nasa.gov/landsat.cgi, and that server isn't generating images right now. This has happened before for a few days, and eventually they fixed it and our terrain generator started working again. I'll see if I can kickstart any requests that don't ask for waypoint images. Re: Terrain generator down?Just a thought re the waypoint images. It's a nice idea, but are they really
worth having. I tried it recently, and apart from the rather large file, they were so poor that I couldn't recognise my own home site. Why do we need them when the map navigates us so accurately? Re: Terrain generator down? The idea originally behind the waypoint images was that one could use
whatever source they had available for images, including making extracts from Enroute Supplements etc. Because of some minor limitations in the way the new map files are generated the xcm files do not contain the images and I've somewhat lost interest in the function itself --- so I'm somewhat pleased that someone out there actually used them. I thought I would (and of source saw the logic of why it would be useful) but in real life never had. Re: Terrain generator down?As my other post mentioned, I'd originally planned to get some better
information on that page, e.g. a proper diagram from ERSA which could contain information like runway names, circuit directions etc. And I originally thought it would be useful flying into an area to know roughly what the airport looked like. But you're right, the colouring of the landsat images are so unnatural that there's arguable benefit. On Tue, 2008-06-24 at 21:22 +0100, David Salmon wrote: > Just a thought re the waypoint images. I thought I would (and of source saw > the > logic of why it would be useful) but in real life never had. I used to use them all the time before a flight. I would find my landing locations and turn points to see what they looked like. But I have to say that I have not used them for the past 2 seasons. I think this is mostly an experience thing. It was a useful feature before I knew my area. That being said, I still fly new places, but I tend to study them now on google maps. So like Johnny, I am pleased it is used, and my gut says it should still be there, but I no longer use them. Re: Terrain generator down?I have not asked for Waypoint Images any more, and still it doesn't seem to be working. The other day it progressed from 'queued' to the next step, but that's where it stopped.

Re: Terrain generator down?Just a quick update: NASA's Landsat image server is running again, so
I'm re-enabling the waypoint image generation. If anyone requested terrain with waypoint images in the last two weeks, there's a good chance your request was ignored. If you requested terrain without waypoint images, they may have been ignored anyway because of a bug (oops). You can re-submit your requests now and they should go through. Re: SpamScott
Would it be fair to say you are the mailing list owner? There seems to be a way to get help from nabble. See here http://www.nabble.com/help/Answer.jtp?id=22 With registration being required to post to the list, how does the spam get through I wonder? Keith
