Tempo/Meter Track?

A lot of music I record has frequent tempo and time signature changes.
While ardour works well with this when I'm recording something where the
structure is already defined it makes on the fly arrangements harder. If
I copy or move things which straddle tempo or meter changes I have to
stop to fiddle with the tempo and meter markers to get the bars to line
up again.

I'm posting this to -dev because as far as I can see there isn't an easy
way to deal with this so it's probably a feature request. So how
difficult would it be to make the tempo/meter bars into a track type which
could be cut and pasted in blocks like any other track. Would this be a
sane way of doing things?

its completely the right approach, but it won't be feasible for quite a
long time.
