Temp directory is oddHello
I have a few questions about the "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files", directory.. I know whats there, and what its for, but this directory is not like every other directories. It have filenames with "/" chars in it, I cannot make these files manual, or are them some kinda virtual files? I was also wondering what thoses content. directories is.. And why are they superhidden? Example "Content.Outlook", I cannot see it while browsing the temp folder, but I can access it manually.. Regards Lars |

Re: Temp directory is oddHi
Its WinXP pro.. I'm asking this mostly because i'm curious. How can there be any files with "/" in their name? And why is the folders "super hidden"? I have been known about the super hidden directories for a while. But the "/" names is somehow new to me. I cannot even rename the files and if I for example tries to copy the "accounts/" file, it gets automaticly renamed to "USERNAME@accounts[2].txt".. Thanks again -- Lars On Wed, Mar 12, 2008 at 12:36 AM, Geekwench <geekwench@...> wrote: > What operating system? > > Laura > > -------------------------------------------------- > From: "Lars" <sunberg@...> > Sent: Monday, March 10, 2008 8:35 AM > To: <focus-ms@...> > Subject: Temp directory is odd > > > > > Hello > > > > I have a few questions about the "C:\Documents and > > Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files", > > directory.. > > I know whats there, and what its for, but this directory is not like > > every other directories. RE: Temp directory is oddThat directory is basically a custom shell handler. When you browse to that
directory a COM component handles the presentation in explorer, and it doesn't necessarily reflect what is in directory itself. The Fonts, History, zip folders, control panel, and other directories work the same way. Also, if you create files in the temporary internet files directory, they won't show up in explorer, which is a way to casually hide files. NT native API & NTFS support ANY characters in the file name, btw.
