Hey Tavmjong,

I bought your book!
http://www.informit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0131357948

and now I really want a printed copy too.

I tried uploading it to lulu.com as a private project to purchase a
print copy, but it can't be printed there because the fonts are not
embedded.

Just wondering if you (or your publisher) has plans to make it available
as print on demand?  I know a school that also wants to buy a couple of
copies for the school library.

I've posted this to inkscape-users, because I imagine there are others
who might like a printed copy, and support your excellent efforts in
writing it!

cheers
Donna

But the fonts are embedded! At least in what I gave the publisher. You
can check by opening the PDF file with Acroread and look under
File->Properties. I know that at least one person took the previous
edition and had it printed at Kinkos.

I've just checked with the publisher. They are going to look again at
printing it as a real book. The major obstacle is the cost of 4-color
printing for a book that would be current for at most a year (until the
next version of Inkscape comes out). Just printing it in 4-colors at
Lulu.com, I believe, is over $60 for the pages. Color was, when I last
looked, 15 cents a page while black and white was 2 cents. And that
doesn't include the fee for the binding.

Question: Would a black and white printing of the book be OK or is
having color figures needed?
