It occurs a lot, Mike.  I've seen it firsthand and it's all over the
'net in videos.  One particular example stands out in my mind - a
cruiser going into a corner (on the Dragon, IIRC), panicking and
driving off the road - then his buddies follow him.  Why?  Target
fixation.

I know that i've been caught by it before...   I hadn't been riding for
a while (6 months), due to bad tires and no dollars.  I finally got the
new treads on and was out scrubbing them in.  I took a turn a little too
fast, and totally fixated on the spot on the guardrail that I was going
to crash into.  it took a ?second?minute?hour? for me to realize what
was happening and to look to where I wanted to go, not where I wanted to
avoid.  I made the turn.

As for the cops...  from my experience, they gravitate towards the jelly
filled.  :~)
