Hello World

Newbie here.  My Tungsten T5 got contaminated with some liquid body soap,
started acting funny, always defaulting to hotsync when started, fatal
errors, had to be reset, kept defaulting to previous screens, switched
programs at random, and finally wouldn't boot up at all. I want to take the
back off to clean it up. But after removing the four screw, it won't budge.
How do I get the back off?

I thought about just throwing it in a tub of water to dilute the soap and
then just let it dry before trying to fire it up again. Any thoughts on this
approach?

Plain water doesn't sound right to me. I read somewhere on line that
alcohol works well for stuff like this. In particular, I think I read
that if you drop your expensive smart phone in water to dry it off by
dunking it in alcohol. Ah, here it is.
http://www.wikihow.com/Save-a-Wet-Cell-Phone. I haven't tried this
myself.
Good Luck!

THanks for the quick reply.

I found and read the article you referenced.

The alcohol does seem to be more logical than water.  The cautions for both
(distilled water or ETOH) are, however, is to remove the battery first. SO
this is my worry, and that perhaps the "short" has already occurred and
damaged the unit. OR, if not to remove the battery or isolate it is
important. THis means removing the casing.  As I mentioned I'm having
trouble doing this.  I'm hoing somebody can tell me the trick to opening the
unit up.

Thanks

Google found these posts from the big geeks at Palminfocenter.
http://www.palminfocenter.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=165099 Turns out
you just pry harder (but gently). Read their helpful posts for the
details on the fingernail method.

Dear VDuran.rm

You are a god to me. Thank you.

I googled that same site (palminfocenter) but couldn't find anything. (That
I believe is an indication of my expertise..) I am going to try the
suggestions that I saw posted. I just KNEW there was a fifth screw hidden
somewhere. Wish me luck. I'll let you know.

I am not worthy.
