Syntax highlighting and preformatted code

I'm trying to use the syntax highlighting code that was discussed here
recently (the javascript stuff), but I'm having difficulty since I can't
seem to convince pebble to leave the pre-formatted stuff alone.

In the blog entry editor I'm switching to the source view.  Then I enter
the <pre> and </pre> tags with the code between them.  Now what I want
is for Pebble to completely ignore anything between these two tags.
Unfortunately it seems to be trashing it all as soon as I save it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I think I had some issues with the rich text editor doing stuff to pre tags before, so I just made the default to be source, I don't like web based rich text editors anyway.

Hello,

What did you do to make the "Source" editor default?
I see only option which allows me to turn off Rich Editor for comments but not for entry body.
