You should be able to do what you want, at least with the BB SDK version 4.2.1 or later. Check out the BB developers comunity at BB

Blackberry help!

Hi all,

I need help from professionals who works with Blackberry:
Is it possible to implement following features on BB:
1) once in GSM call, take over the screen i.e. put client app on the
front? And if it is possible then answer the call and keep the
application on the front?
2) advanced call control features such as call transfer, hold, mute?
3) is it possible to keep connection with the server alive and keep
talking (regular GSM call)?

I know this is probably not what you are looking for (and it certainly
isn't hardware accelerated). Oh, and you proably already knew about
it.. But given the lack of response on this topic, I'll post it

Romain Guy did some work on advanced blending modes for photo

thanks for your answer. That is what I thought... however I was still hoping someone would know some trick I am not aware of.

I think it would be an interesting graphical feature to be able to draw with some custom brush. For sure we can do without it, but it would be nice to have.

Unfortunately the Stroke interface in 2D is defined as just a geometric
effect - it can turn a Path into an "outline to fill", but cannot
specify any color properties for the result. As a result, there would
be no "custom Stroke implementation" you could use to achieve this
result and I can't think of any better ways of doing it than what you
did short of writing your own rendering function(s)...

JTAPI is only an interface, not an implementation. Since telephony is
so varied (Modems, TAPI on MS desktops, Dialogic cards, PBXes, Central
switches, VoIP (SIP, etc.), Asterisk...), JTAPI only provides a set of
interfaces and a lookup class/pattern to find the desired provider.
Depending on the telephony system that you are targeting, you then
need to find an implementation of JTAPI for that platform.

One quick way to get started is to use GJTAPI, an open-source
extensible framework for JTAPI that supports a number of platforms
including TAPI, voice modems, Dialogic, asterisk, and SIP. It also has
an emulator provider that allows you to test without any telephony
platform. It doesn't support all of JTAPI, but does cover the most
commonly used packages (core, privatedata, media, callcontrol
(partial)).

I downloaded the Jtapi from sun's wen site .

when I run the incall.java .

I am getting the following exception.

Can’t get Provider: com.ids.ramesh.incall.JtapiPeerUnavailableException:
JtapiPeer: DefaultJtapiPeer could not be instantiated.

I have seted all jar files in class path.

please could anybody guide me where am i doing worng?.

Hi Lrs,

My only experience kde running artsd causing this problem.

You could use ps -aux to list all the processes to see if there is
anything like this running.

If this is the problem you should be able to configure the system
via the setup menus so it is not started.

I only have that one Linux PC, it works fine on my other Windows XP PC,
but my Windows XP PC has a different soundcard.

I have four soundcards in that computer and it seems to work with the other soundcards. I don't have any applications other than file browser and terminal window open. The window manager does probably play sound and might use the line, but how do I get the line back from the window manager?

Just guessing but from reading the description it sounds like a the
files aren't setup correctly with indirect referencing in your search
database. I'm trying to remember and I'm sure it's in the archives but
use jhsearch against your search database. It's a command line tool.
Enter in a search command and look at the file names of the file
returned. You should be able to construct a URL using that file name
appended to the file name of the help set (with the help set file name
removed).

Search Links Not Working

Hi,

I recently moved my JavaHelp to a server from a standalone version (which worked fine) and I've been having some difficulties. I've got most of them figured out but I have one that I'm completely stuck on.

When I perform a search, the search will return hits back. They seem to be OK. However, when I click a hit, it will not go to that page. Whatever page is currently in the viewer simply stays and the highlighting changes.

As a general example, say the current page I have displayed is Holidays - Labor Day. I perform a search for Holidays and it returns all the various Holiday pages. I click on Holidays - Christmas and all that happens is some highlighting occurs on the Labor Day page with no apparent rhyme or reason to the highlighting. Clicking on other Holidays simply moves the highlighting around.

Does anybody have any advice as to what the problem is and how to fix it?

Your web browser, artsd (kde) ?

In linux you can not open a line that is being used by another
application (windows will allow this).

I would check the above before making any conclusions about 8kHz.

Concurrent audio

Hi
Is it possible to have multiple soundcards in a computer and use Java
sound to capture audio and playback audio on those multiple soundcards
concurrently? I mean can I select which soundcard to use when I capture
audio and then capture from two soundcards concurrently? When playing
audio back, can I select which soundcard to playback on and back back on
two soundcards at the same time?

Glad to hear that you worked something out.

The "simulated" fs mode (maximized undecorated window)
is actually acceptable for most cases. I would only
use fullscreen mode if you needed to change the display
mode as well.

Yes, it works as expected in single screen, FS mode. But, unfortunately, I no longer have a two monitor set up available to test this, and probably won't have one in a short term.

I already delivered my program to the consumer. "Workaround" was not using full screen, I maximized the JFrame and disabled minimize, maximize and close buttons. Sure not a perfect solution, but it was acceptable for the task.

I´d like to really thank you for your attention and feedbacks, and if there's any other info you would like me to post here, please let me know.

Need Help with user input recognition

I have been given the task of making a very simple game that asks the user to input "more" or "less". The request was as follows:

Your input checking should be somewhat robust. When asked if he or she thinks it will be more or less, the program should accept and handle "more", "More, "MORE", "m", or "M". For less, your program should accept "less", "Less", "LESS", "l", or "L".

I do not know what method or command I need to use to get it to recognize all of the variations of the words. Help would be much appreciated.

Yes, it looks fine. Now we'd need to run your app in fs mode in
multiscreen configuration with the same flag to see
if there are some errors.

Does it work in single screen setup?

Field level help always shows homeID URL

I implemented context level help of 2 types:
1. Field level help - triggered from a menuitem using:
[i]menuitem_CSH.addActionListener(new CSH.DisplayHelpAfterTracking(mainHS, "javax.help.Popup", null));[/i]

2. Help key (F1) type help - using:
[i]mainHB.enableHelpKey(getRootPane(), "top", mainHS);[/i]

Point 2 type help works perfectly - which implies that my MAP file & setHelpID...() stuff is alright.
[i]CSH.setHelpIDString(jbtnConfigure, "config");
CSH.setHelpIDString(jbtnAlarms, "gettingstarted");[/i]

Point 1 however always displays the URL of the homeID. I've tried all kinds of things but can't get this to work.
Am I missing something here? Any help/pointers would be appreciated.

For complex paragraph layout tasks, the problem I had was to redo the
layout in response to changes in the size of the display panel: to
layout with wider of narrower line widths. Layout takes some time, so I
am currently trying the following.

In the panel (and in the EDT) capture the resize information, storing
the latest size, and trying to start a worker. If a worker is already
active, do nothing.

Otherwise, start a size monitoring worker.

The size monitoring worker in turn invokes another worker, whose job is
to perform the layout. It creates the layout worker, triggers it with
execute(), then blocks on a get() from the same worker.

The doInBackground method returns an object representing the laid out
paragraph. The done() method calls repaint, which collects the layout
data and paints it, according to the size of the panel when the task
started.

Meanwhile, the size monitoring worker has returned from the get(), and
can now check to see whether another size change has occurred.

If so, it repeats the cycle of creating a layout worker.

If not, it terminates, and the system waits on another size change event.

It may seem that the size monitoring worker is redundant, but I found
that it neatly separated the phases. One of the problems, I think, was
that the actual repaint() takes some time itself. Performing the repaint
in the done() method of layout worker seems to work, but ideally, I
would like the size monitoring worker to wait until the repaint was
finished before starting another layout worker, but I can't see an easy
way to do that, while preserving the nice blocking characteristics of
the get() method.

It's a messy explanation, I know, and it was developed by trial and
error. If you need anything clarified, let me know.

That is cool. I guess the more sample size independent version for 32 bit container would be:

shift = 32 - 8 * audioFormat.getFrameSize();
sample <<= shift;
sample >>= shift;
