Hello everybody,
I'm about to order an openbrick ng from storever for using as a small
silent personal server. I've considered many alternatives, but the ong
is the only one meeting all my requirements.
I'm a little bit concerned by a few things however, and I'd be
grateful if someone could clarify the following points:
- The storever site mentions a "USB flash disk" option. Is it standard
USB memory sticks? Is there an internal compactflash slot to put the
base OS?
- Is there an alive community around the ong? In particular, is the
software perenity assured (I plan to put a debian on it)?
- The storever site seems not to have been updated for a while. Do you
think the listed place (390€) is still fair as of today?
- What advices would you give to someone who needs a completely silent
server? Are 2,5" HDDs ok in this case, is an external, phonic isolated
case needed, of should I go 100% flash?
Thanks a lot for taking the time to go through these newbish questions! :)
Alex.
