Why can't some dogs see mirrors?

My dog is sitting in the family room. I am in the kitchen. A large mirrors on the wall allows us to see each other. I wave my arms frantically, but I can not catch my dog's attention.

My cat is similar. I barely catch its attention, but it just briefly glances in the direction of my reflection, seemingly unable to zero-in on where the motion is coming from, then loses attention.

If I stood where either animal could directly see me, they'd both come running to me when I waved my arms like that.

But my friend's dog barks at itself in the mirror.

I can't rapidly distinguish between a mirror's reflection and reality. I've been in restaurants before, where there was a full wall mirror, thinking that the restaurant was twice as large until I paid a little more attention. The reflection of someone waving their arms would certainly catch my attention.

Are my pets just smarter than me, or do mirrors just work differently for animals?

The trick is to choose very targeted keywords that will trigger your ad
(yes, you can do that). Which means that only very targeted buyers will ever
see your ad and your conversion ration will be incredibly high. You can set

This mirror is currently known as us2.samba.org, so I wanted to make sure
that the team had plenty of time to update the DNS aliases and point
us2.samba.org at another US mirror.

I'm targeting 16-Jan-2007 as the decomissioning date for this service. Let
me know if this is a problem, and if possible when the "us2" responsibility

Try:

That needs AllowOverride FileInfo directive. But allowing
override 'FileInfo' is insecure in some cases. AllowOverride
FileInfo allows to override a lot of directives other than
AddCharset directive.

That is an option, but then we would have to bug mirror maintainers
about the appropriate AllowOverride directives. :-) Just seemed
easier to request "text/html" in this case. (And I emailed Brian
separately about us3 since I had contact info for him.)

What do you gain by having the server set the encoding? Why not just
send plain, vanilla "text/html" and have the web pages control the
encoding as needed? Then, you could server multiple content types
from the same server without much fuss.

Hey there-

Hmmm, I noticed that us3.samba.org is also returning the same
charset. This is just the default for our web server that is being
sent out; perhaps the better solution would be to set the charset via
a .htaccess file in the top level of the samba directory, so that the
samba people can control the content type of their pages, rather than
having each server maintainer tweak their default?

and it's not much configurable under apache 1.3.*
(i.e. once charset was set for parent directory
with AddCharset directive it can't be removed
for child directories and I seem to have
everything on the webserver linked to one directory
which has ContentType defined).

In apache 2.* RemoveCharset was introduced but
this doesn't help much with apache 1.3.*

Do you think it's not possible to add AddCharset directive
into .htaccess on samba.org (which will obviously
resolve issues with me and with all the other
servers specifying their default ContentType)?
