STIC2008 Coding Contest?

Dear Aiders,
STIC is organizing a coding contest where in three months you need to make a web app for visually representing and manipulating the chromosome analysis. It seems easy task for Aida but a complex in domain modeling. Visually, you could do some really nice stuff with Ajax drag-and-drop, and even the Prototype-UI stuff Nicholas has been working on to show/compare multiple sets of data if you wanted to.
Like you said, though--the domain model would be hard. Anyone know a genetics expert? From the process improvement work I do, that would be my big set of advice...don't try to tackle the domain by trying to learn it yourself. Find an expert and give them an application THEY would want to use! It sounds fun, but you can see how limited my skills are by the questions you have been answering! Genetics expert would definitively be fine to have, but I think one student with fresh brain and a lot of determination can learn this domain good enough for that case. And those genetics guys probably have some mailing lists too, so there questions can be asked. I see this a typical interdisciplinary work between two groups. That's why this project is even more interesting to me. Just if I'd had more time ...
