Right, thanks Katherine. My problem is I cannot get to that dialog to un-check
the option, the dialog is not showing when I click the Session Properties icon.

Session Properties window not showing (an old problem reoccuring?)

Hi All,

I have an issue with the Session Properties window not showing for some a user account on MS Server2003.
I am accessing SQuirreL SQL via terminal server sessions. I have the latest version of SQuirrel and Sun Java
installed. I have ODBC (JDBC Bridge) and MSSQL (jDTS) drivers installed only. I am accessing MSSQL data.
Neither the ODBC or JDBC aliases I have set up work.

From my admin account, I get the properties window fine. From my admin privileged user account it will not show.
The Windows list shows "1 - <name> (db) as <user>" and also "1 - <name> (db) as <user> - Session Pro...".

Is there an XML or config file that I can change manually? I need to take off the 100 record limit.

Any help is Greatly appreciated!

The Oracle plugin doesn't yet have this capability. You would need to
issue a SQL statement
like "alter procedure xxx compile".

How to auto set the Default Schema in DB2

I use Squirrel sql to connect to DB2 server
After each connection I have to type SET SCHEMA = SMWORK to set the current working schema.
I only have select permission and therefore do not have the permission to add aliases.

I know other db2 clients like TOAD can automatically set the default schema before logging in. Is there a way to do so in SQUIRREL?

Hey Howard,

In newer versions (2.6.7) you can export a SELECT result into CSV / MS Excel format by simply right clicking the results and choosing the option.

Otherwise you can export a whole table as INSERT statements by simply selecting a table from the Objects tree, right click and then Scripts > Create data script. That will generate the INSERT statements in the SQL editor window - keep in mind that if the table is large you need to increase the Maximum Heap Size (-Xmx).

Have you tried adding the -Xmx parameter to the squirrel-sql.bat / squirre-sql.sh ?
I'm using version 2.6.7 and by default it uses now 256 MB for heap, e.g.

I've had no problems allocating 256 MB for SQuirreL, so the problem is likely just getting precisely the correct syntax in your startup command. My squirrel-sql.bat file uses this line:

start "SQuirreL SQL Client" /B "%LOCAL_JAVA%w" -Xmx256m -cp %TMP_CP% net.sourceforge.squirrel_sql.client.Main %TMP_PARMS%

If your main goal is to dump the contents of a table into a file then SQuirreL may not be the simplest solution. Its need to load the data into memory first will be an issue. I would expect that using the database's standard command line tools would more easily let you run a simple query and redirect the result to a file.

You didn't specify a database technology, but it would be similar with any database. For example with MySQL you could run a command like this:

mysql -u myuser -pmypassword -D foodmart < myquery.sql > result.txt

Vivian,

The IBM DB2 App Driver is a type-2 JDBC driver. This means you must install the DB2 client classes (dlls) on your client. It appears this hasn't been done on your associate's machine. This is generally more difficult to use with SQuirreL than a type-4 JDBC driver. It's generally delivered in db2java.zip

But the files you mention below are for the IBM DB2 Universal Driver which is a type-4 JDBC driver. If you don't have a specific reason for wanting the App Driver, then it's better to use the Universal Driver. Make sure that you're using the correct driver class:

com.ibm.db2.jcc.DB2Driver

Your url should be something like this (without the spaces around the slash):

jdbc:db2://<server hostname or IP address>:<DB2 UDB Instance port number> / <dbalias>

Oracle makes their JDBC driver available on their website at no cost. You
can get classes12.zip and its later versions like ojdbc14.jar there.

On the machine where you have installed Oracle, look in
$ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib. There will jars and zips there. You just need
one of them. Ideally you would use ojdbc14.jar (classes12.zip is for
an older version of Java).

OK actually I got the latest classes12.zip and its JDBC 3 compliance. But I notice that when I imported a file with date for eg. "1/04/2008 7:00:11 AM", it shows in squirrels as "4/1/08 12:00 AM"
Could you kindly assist as to how could i get the same timing as the original data.

Thanks to the suggestions by Robert from this forum, I've resolved the problem. The problem had to do with the jdbc thin driver that I was using from the classes12.zip. It was an older jdbc and it wasn't JDBC 3.0 complaint. Once I replaced the classes12.zip that came with my Oracle installation, SQuirreL did show up the time on the "TIMESTAMP(6)" type column of my table.

Can't configure the plugin

I try to configure hibernate plugin on squirrel 2.6.6.

I added all hibernate jars (3.2.6ga), and an implementation jar for slf4j. (slf4j-simple-1.5.3.jar) in my classpath entries.

I always have the same error, with and without adding my applications files to the classpath entries(jars + hibernate.cfg.xml) :

can't search through package body

Have you tried substituting the hostname with the ip address?
perhaps the '-' in the hostname is the problem

set char_convert off function in Squirrel

Hi,
I was wondering if you might be able to help me - I am trying to export a comments field to a csv file and the only application that I can find to do this easily (without putting carriage returns into new cells) is Squirrel.

However on the application I usually use (ASEisql) I can run a command set char_convert off to stop my euro symbols coming out like question marks etc. However when I use this command in Squirrel I still get the question marks and not the correct symbol.

Is there a similar command on Squirrel that turns off the character set?

can you add multiple object filters

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to add multiple object filters to my "Object Tree" tab in Session Properties.

I have a database with thousands of tables and it would be supremely useful to be able to limit my object tree to the half dozen or so tables I am working on.

I've tried commas, spaces, even a pipe hoping maybe it would 'or' them together.

support SQLite) and use that for now. It is available here:

Query failure with SQLite

Greetings -

I have tried to set up Squirrel 2.6.6 with SQLite 3-3.6.2 and
sqlitejdbc-v053.jar driver. The Squirrel client connects to the database and
displays tables and their contents properly in the Object Tree pane.

However, any SQL that is submitted in the SQL Worksheet pane, such as SELECT *
from FOO; or INSERT INTO FOO (col1) VALUES ('dog'); gets an error as follows:

"Error: statement is not executing
SQLState: null
ErrorCode: 0"

I registered the driver using the "Extra Class Path" tab and it said that it
registered successfully. I also tried the same tests with another generic
SQL Client (DbVisualizer), and this worked flawlessly. I would prefer to use
Squirrel but am blocked unless I can actually issue queries to the database.
Research on this and other forums suggests that the diriver that I am using is
appropriate, and Squirrel should work fine with SQLite.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

It is simply a bug. The SQLServer dialect is missing the scale placeholder ($s) that should be present for DECIMAL types.
You can also see this if you create the table in SQLServer correctly (that is, decimal(7,5)) and try to create a script from it.
It yields decimal(7). I believe this bug has been present in 2.6.x and possibly before that. Please write it up and it will get

I don't think anyone has every asked for this. There is a high degree of functionality represented by the UI that I'm having trouble imaging as a command-line interface. What features of SQuirreL would be "must haves" in the command-line interface, that could reasonably be represented with a command-line interface? Having these as goals from the inception of the project, might have led to better separation between the logic and UI. But since the UI targeted has only ever been Swing, there has never been an imperative to abstract away all dependencies on Swing code. Not to say that wouldn't be helpful - at the very least for unit testing - but hopefully that helps explain the state of the code today. So what does SQuirreL do well that would also translate well into a command-line app ?

Squirrel SQL in batch (no-gui) mode

I am a BMC Software employee and I am interested in using Squirrel SQL in batch (non-gui) mode.

Is there a way to achieve this?

I went over the code and I noticed that the GUI is sometimes intertwined with the logic, for instance, there are MainForm calls or gui.Dialog package calls in SessionManager etc...

That is an SQL-Plus command and not SQL that Oracle recognizes. We have an outstanding feature request to emulate it.
