SCIM and EEE PC 900?

I'm having issues with GCIN (the pinyin input sucks, basically), and I'd like to install SCIM on my EEE PC 900 (running the default Xandros Linux). I have tried this before, but it didn't work. Just sat there in the task bar and looked sad.

Anyone got any suggestions? Or has tried this and had it work?
