Hello all,
I'm currently trying to do some testing on a package that normally uses
e-TeX extensions. However, for a particular purpose I need to avoid the
extensions (a publisher with server stuff to worry about). I want to
check that I'm getting things right, so I need to test with e-TeX
*turned off*. My set up is MiKTeX 2.7, WinXP Pro SP3, with "latex" giving:
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-1.40.8-alpha-20080323 (MiKTeX 2.7)
(preloaded format=latex 2008.3.30) 21 JUN 2008 14:54
entering extended mode
I've looked, and although I see --enable-etex, I don't find the reverse
--disable-etex (which doesn't work, in any case). I've tried "tex
&latex test.tex", but this results in:
This is TeX, Version 3.1415926 (MiKTeX 2.7)

which isn't exactly what I wanted to see! (The file test.tex is a very
basic "Hello World" latex file, at the moment.) I end up having to use
Ctrl-C to kill TeX.
I must be missing something, but I'm stuck. How to I run latex with no
e-TeX, or get tex to load the latex format and then run my file?
Thanks,
Joseph Wright
