That Yahoo email you got from equi-type is from me. My wife was logged
in to Yahoo and I didn't notice. Unfortunately the Yahoo programmers
were not bright enough (well you can't blame them, they really would
rather be doing video games of people ripping each other apart) to
correctly code the authentication routine for the groups. Any non
member, as long as they have a ligitimate Yahoo account, can respond to
any of the post. But then, only the poster gets the reply has if it
were a offline email. That is all they can do but, hey, it is a pain in
the xxxx when other people share your computer.

I guess the only cure is the way Pete does it with his Triumph Twins
group and not allow a non member to even view the post. But then that
discourages new members who would like to see what the group is like
before joining.

I'll second that. CJay, see if you can snag me a cue sheet for the ride
- it would make a good route for our old motorbikes. I'll swap you a cue
sheet for the Assault on Mt Mitchell. Better yet, let me show you the
route in person

I just realized why the above question probably makes me look dumb.

I suspect most of you use Yahoo mail and would not realize the problem.

I never use Yahoo mail. Strictly MS outlook. I have over 13,000
messages in my Yahoo mail, most of which seem to deal with my sex life
and how to cure it (I didn't know it was broken).

Anyhow, if you just access the group here and not the Yahoo email you
will find that email addresses are hidden and that the email editor
launched from the group has no way of attaching anything.

But, I see if I go to the Yahoo mail I can see the full address and
also can reply with attachements.

So ignore my previous post.

I went to the 2008 Virginia British Motorcycle Club British and
European classic motorcycle show this weekend in Leesburg VA just
outside of Wash. DC.

The weather was great. The field was full with hundreds of bikes. I
took the Triumph this year. Last year I got third place in the RE
class with the 612 which I currently have up on the lift mapping out
cams looking for even more performance.

I didn't win anything with the Trump and didn't expect too because it
is not restored. But, had I taken the 612 I'd have gotten 1st place
in the RE class for sure.

Why? Because none showed up, that's why. I have a picture on my cell
phone of the RE sign sitting in front of a long empty row but due to
technical difficulties can not share it.

Anyhow, what happened to you guys? Last year the row was full, this
year not a one!

Hope this is not some kind of omen.

Hi All ,

Let me introduce myself , My name is Devon Carr and live in Durban,
South Africa. I have been a "Reading" member on the group for
sometime now.

I became the owner of a Series 2 1969 Royal Enfield Interceptor in
Feb of this year. The RE Interceptor group (also under Yahoo) has
greatly assisted me in getting my bike back on the road after not
having been run for some 23 years I think.

Some brief history on my bike is that I acquired it from my late
uncle's estate. (In a non-running state) He had owned the bike since
new and has 22000 mile on the clock.(about 500 by me) It is one of 4
Interceptor in South Africa. (The other three are non-runners & 2 are
baskets cases.) I am still very new in the world of Enfield having
never seen one until I got mine.

I stripped the bike completely down to pieces & then
cleaned /polished & re-assembled again. Fitting some new parts that
were required & that I could afford. Down here in South africa the
only source of parts is the UK , so with the exchange rate & shipping
costs( I hear you Lawrence) and then taxes. Your hard earned cash
doesn't go far. Basically any price I see in pounds(GBP), I need to
double for my budget purpose.

Well my bike is running fine & there a still a few things that I will
fix as the funds become avaliable. My original aim was to keep her as
an untouched 39 year old lady, but I have changed this and am now
aiming to take her back to her glory days.

And on me: I was born in 1970 ,a year after my bike was made. I am
married to Michelle and my "pit crew" on the bike are our sons
Matthew & Joshua (age 3 & 2 respectively. They have almost mastered
Righty Tighty - Lefty loosey but always go for the hammer first. I
wonder why?.
My wife's car has also been relegated to outside, with the
Interceptor sleeping everynight in the Garage.

So if you are looking for an Enfield from Africa them I will send you
a picture of me and the Interceptor.

i did not forget. I tried to made pictures of the efi (and me) in front
of a castle. but, it's not very good.....
I will go on 17, 18, 19 october to a little meeting (20 enfield) and i
though that i'ill made pictures.....
could you wait for 19 at night ?

Thanks for the excellent write up Chris. I too do not care for the
Lean Burn engine (too alien in apearance) or ES models (nothing against
those who have an ES, but the starter bodged onto the front of the
cases just isn't my cup a tea)

I have, however, liked the look of the UCE from the begining. My main
concern was would it retain the KS, and I see that it has. I'm quite
interested in adding one to my stable unless the model revealed in
Germany is a complete horror styling wise.

Not the first time Ive heard
of something like this. There used to be
an antiques shop here in Manhattan that specialized in Indochinese objects, textiles, and furniture. It was on the
seventh floor of a loft building just above Union Square.

One day I walked in and saw,
in addition to the usual Asian chattel, four vintage motorcycles. The surreal
contrast alone would have made them the centerpiece of a conversation. The
owner explained that they were used by the British police in pre-independence Burma and had
been kept in a garage somewhere. Somehow if the four bikes didnt wind up in
the container, a few more important items to the owner, that is wouldnt be shipped either.

No idea which company made
the motorcycles any here know? but I wound up spending the next couple of
days trying to find someone to buy them lest they wind up as another amusing
dust catcher in some collectors salon. With no success, alas, but I do hope
they found happy homes.

They had shut down the main drag in town for the "Cranberry Festival", and we were
mobbed. The bikes were beautifully presented, and Leon sold at least one. Chumma rode an
hour down "Da Joisey Toinpike", and his '06 Military was immediately parked in the display
tent. People were all over it like Ugly on an Ape.
I'm amazed at how much better the level of fit and finish, particularly paint quality, are
compared to my '04. The lean burn motor looks better in the metal than in photos.
Tait is 30 something, with a fine head of skin and a double earring. Comes across more as
"Pirate" than "Decorator," though. The guy can sell.
I wish Leon well, drop by if you're in the area.

Kevin from CMW brought it out for us to run through the mill.

We all got to put it to the test and everyone's opinion was positive.
And even though I am resistant to change and turned my back on the
electric start models and wouldn't even look at an Electra my opinion
was positive too. Time will tell.
It started easy with no choking or blipping the throttle. It is cold
blooded and needs to warm up a bit before you ride. The first thing
you really notice is how much more torque it has over a iron motor.
We went on a 40/50 mile ride and I was following Kevin (he was riding
2 up) and the whole time I think I saw him downshift 1 time going up a
steep hill. The rest of the time you just roll on the throttle and it
goes up the hill.
There is a really steep hill on 19 by the campground. If you turn onto
it and accelerate real fast into 5th gear the UCE would accelerate all
the way to the top of the hill. I would be in 3rd and slowing down on
my Bullet.
Throttle is very responsive compared to a bike with a carburetor and
Kevin has been in touch with Power Commander already about making an
adjustable "black box" for those all important improvements.
It sounds like a bullet!
The only thing I think it could use is a bigger countershaft sprocket
and those rubber fin spacer things removed.
Aside from that with all the emission standards looming in the future
for most of RE's export markets I think they did well to preserve the
feel and sound of the Bullet. I guess it beats having no Bullets for
the future.
I can't wait to take one apart to see what makes it tick. I did have
tools but they wouldn't let me at it!

you know the answer to that one! Although some think that the
original promoters
thought The World was boundaried by the Pacific and Atlantic oceans,
and the Canadian
and Mexican borders, it was actually a bit more ethnocentric than
even that. The World Series, if I have it correctly, was actually
designed for the two New Yawk teams, The Yankees and the Dodgers, to
have it out with one another every year.

Sort of like when Hockey Night In Canada dealt with a league
consisting of teams from
Montreal, Tranna, Dee-troit, Chicago, Winnipeg, and I think New Yawk
again. What it actually had to do with the rest of Canada was that it
was broadcast on the Canada-wide
radio network, the CBC.

There was some discussion a day or two ago on the term OTY. It was
originally coined
by Jan the Swede - a once-famous member of the list - to mean Off
Topic Yap. This was our way of dealing with the tendency of some to
get off the subject of royalenfield per se, and into other
things. We decided as a group that, although a little ranting on
subjects other should be permitted, it was only fair to warn off the
disinterested by including the term *OTY* in the subject line.

We also thrashed out the issue of changing thread titles. When you
just punch the R key to reply to a posting, your reply will carry the
same title as the posting to which you are replying. So if the guy
who did the last one continued the screw up, you'll get a completely
wrong title, which can cause some members not interested in your OTY
to be PO'd when they open the message and find, for example, a rant
on baseball (or is it football, I didn't care/notice) when they
thought they were going to read something on, say, Order from India
received. These things can get important if you have a rich email life!

Thus, to conform to the ethic thus developed lo these many y'ar ago.
the posting below would have been re-titled thusly:

"*OTY* Baseball" rather than "Order from India received"

Possibly not a bad standard to which to return...........

Grab a can of Brakleen, take the friction lined plates and clean them
well. Then LIGHTLY roughen up the surface of the linings, clean them
again.
When you reassemble the clutch , readjust the clutch push rod and make
sure that it has some free play...
Completely clean EVERY THING in the primary chaincase, including the
alternator stator windings.
Dont over tighten the primary chain.
Dont over fill with oil.

Has anyone tried Overdrive of the Electra 5S top gear.
1) Is it safe
2) Do we need to change the gear box
3) What ratio is optimum

I have asked the same question many times since i moved out to the US 13 years ago and
have been fluffed off with all kinds of twaddle BUT (and i have never checked into it to find
out if its true) i was told once that the competition got its name from the news paper that
came up with the idea and sponsored it. Don't remember the name of the paper now but it
was something like "The World Gazette" or "Daily World" . Who knows, could be true!

Maybe when Japan gets to the big leagues, it will be more of a 'World"
series. Pretty much an American sport at that level of play, but good

I don't know of any songs with R.E's mentioned but my band covers 52 Vincent black
lightning and we also have a song called "Bad Motorcycle" that has my stroker bullets engine
blasting in the begining, middle and end of the song!

i have purchased a few items from ashish and have had no problems at all,i am in england and i am waiting for my twin leading front brake conversion for which i got for half the price of other suppliers

purchased from the U.S. Nearly all other items came in OEM factory
packaging. I even got a CDI electronic ignition unit to have as a spare.

The delay didn't affect me because most of the parts are either spares
or to be used for the new trike-rickshaw, which isn't near complete
anyway. OEM oil filters, spare head and other gaskets, etc. won't be
needed until later - they are spares. A complete rear wheel and all
bearings was also purchased which will be used on the trike.

Packaging was carefully done, with the entire shipment placed in a
muslin bag and actually sewn in, so that if the cardboard got damaged,
it would act as a final defense against parts loss.

I haven't bothered to compute the actual savings, but it is
significant. I would say I saved a minimum of two thirds the U.S.
cost, even considering the shipping and duty. The rear wheel alone
cost about one-forth what I was quoted from the U.S. (I paid U.S. $90
for the complete wheel and hub with SS spokes). The rather nice
leather seat, with sturdy mounting bracket, was only $60. Had
shipment been to the U.S. instead of Tonga, the time it took would
have been much less. Last week, for example, the guys in Nuku'alofa
'forgot' to put the mail on board the inter island ferry (the H>M
Olovaha) so this alone caused a week's delay inside of Tonga. One
learns patience living here.

Well, i suppose I took a risk, but it was well paid for and I am sure
that if the package had gone astray, Ashish would have made it right.
In fact I understand he was so concerned about the delay and the
shipment going astray, that he set about duplicating the order.
Folks, the Indians such as Ashish are very pleasant to deal with.
Patience and respect are all that are required.

So, I would recommend Ashish and his royalmotorcycle.com operation
without qualification.

Ah, someone else has his priorities right! I'm normally a Dodgers fan, coming from a time when every year it was Dodgers vs. Yankees and Dodgers generally lost - I always root for the underdog, and now the Cubs with their long and difficult past - yeah, I too would like to see them win something, at least.

This year's Superbowl I was able to see a play by play on one of the Yahoo connections, but my broad band internet is very slow - takes fifteen minutes to load up a two minute YouTube segment. But thanks for the link - I'll give it a try.

All this bailout crap on the news makes baseball a very good diversion for sure.
