Tom,

the externalpackages of stack "revExternalLibrary"

should contain "revBrowser" and

the externals of stack "revExternalLibrary" should contains something
like

/Users/Tom/Desktop/Test/MacOSX/Test.app/Contents/MacOS/Externals/
revbrowser.bundle

What is an image holder?!

You don't need to set the externals property yourself. The standalone
builder should do this for you. I just want to know whether this is
done correctly.

Are you sure that you have set the rect of the browser object
correctly? If you don't set the rect, you may never see the browser,
even though it has been loaded correctly.

How do you know there is no execution error? How did you check this?

This stack shows how to reorganize a list field manually using Rev

Note: due to a Rev bug in XP, the drag image does not show up

I am at the end of a project and need to just have this work. The
Windows build will not work. The OSX build will not work.

But the .rev file with revBrowser will work in the IDE on both
platforms.

Thanks, Found it and removed the line. There was another line in that
file that said "altBrowser, altFont.bundle" which I changed to
"altFont, altFont.bundle"

Still trying to figure out why the revBrowser won't work on building a
standalone.

Rev allows many ways to script:
Here is the same as the above using a function.
What is interesting is that a function returns a value immediately
when a condition matches and avoids using nested conditional
structures or long statements with and/or.

There would be a lot to say about protection schemes...
A way to achieve your goal would be to use SSL encryption:
Cipher and decipher routines would be placed in your standalone and
values in a custom property of your stack.
Note that you need Rev Enterprise to access SSL functions.

Hello,

I have a software package that consists of
two parts. A standalone, which contains the
Rev engine and secure information. And a
stack which the standalone calls up on
start-up, which holds the brunt of the
objects and scripts, and which is saved on
occassion. Both standalone and stack are
password protected.

I'd like to offer the software package as a
trial-edition that is limited to a fixed amount
of days (or times started up). However,
I can't picture a way of doing this in a way
that protects against an average user whose
smart enough to use RunRev to open up
the stack and peek about under the hood,
which is doable even if the stack is password
protected.

Hi Jacque,

You appear to be right. The HCAddressing doesn't affect the ID's, only
whether "card" or "background" is included in object references. So,
the problem really must be that the images are only in the original
stack and copying them should be sufficient.

Hi Tiemo,

As soon as you use the open command, the defaultStack changes. Try this:

put the short name of the defaultStack into myStack
go invisible stack "foo" -- or open
set the loc of stack "foo" to the loc of stack myStack
show stack "foo"

problems with set loc of a stack

Hello,

I have a substack which is frequently shown and hidden. The first time I do:

-Open stack "foo"

-Show stack "foo"

-Set the loc of stack "foo" to the loc of the defaultstack

When closing the window, I just hide stack "foo"

>From the second "opening" I just:

-Show stack "foo"

-Set the loc of stack "foo" to the loc of the defaultstack

Where I am struggeling is, that the set of the loc, doesn't works for the
first time (the stack is shown somewhere at 0,xy), from the second show on,
the set loc works as wanted. Why does the set loc doesn't works for the
first opening of the window?

Any idea? Thanks for any comment

OK. So with the help of a few great people on this list I now can do
popup contextual menus for fields. Thank you.

A user suggested that pretty much every field (regular text field)
should be able to have a contextual menu for Cut, Copy, and Paste at a
minimum.

How would I add this feature to all my editable fields? I can do them
one at a time but that would be pretty tedious. There must be a more
global way to do it.

Actually, the engine checks both the ID and the altID when looking for
an object, regardless of the HCAddressing property. It uses the first
match it finds.

Hi Tom,

In the Externals folder located in your Documents folder there is a
file named "Externals.txt". Open the file in a text editor and I
imagine you will find I line referring to altBrowser. If so then
delete the line and save the file. Doing this should remove altBrowser
from the list of available externals.

Because the original icons are in RAM when the converted stack is open,
they appear in the second, native RR stack. But when you close the
original, the icons are no longer accessible. You need to copy the icons
to the new native stack.

Converted HC icons are imported to an unplaced group called "HC Icons".
You should be able to see it in the Objects/Place Group menu. In the
original stack, place that group temporarily (you can always unplace it
again later,) select the group and copy it. Then paste the group into
the new stack. Once you've done that, you can unplace the group from the
new stack's card so that it is no longer visible.

Alternately, just type in the message box:

copy bg "HC Icons" from stack "convertedStack" to stack "newStack"

You may need to check the button IDs as suggested, or they may just work
as-is anyway.

Yes, there is a problem with ID numbers. Probably, the buttons are
using the altID of the images. The images are in the original stack.
The hcAddressing of the new stack is false, which means that the
normal ID instead of the altID is used and thus the icons don't appear
in the new stack.

You need to copy the images, check the ID numbers and make sure to use
the correct ID numbers for the icons of the buttons.

unrelated to the original IDs they have in the converted stack. The
buttons are still looking for the old icon IDs which are now gone from
memory (after closing old stack), so no icons are displayed.

To fix it, you can either change the ID of the images or change the icon
properties of the buttons so they reference the images in the RR stack.

Hello Ken and thanks again. I am already using a script to locate
copies of FileBuddy and so far it seems to work on the few machines
I've tested. But thanks for suggesting it because it was dumb luck I
ran across this script.

put "find /Library/Receipts -name *PlistBuddy" into tFindScript
put shell(tFindScript) into tPlistBuddyList

I then figure out which has the most recent creation date and go
with that one.

My fixPath() routine doesn't take all the same characters into
account.... I'll be using yours!

I foolishly was so excited by the RunRev conference in Las Vegas that
I agreed to teach a course in RunRev.

Now that the rubber is 5 weeks away from hitting the road, I'm
learning about "issues."

A HyperCard demonstration came from a stack called StackStarter by
Robertson Smith. The user clicks on a button named shark. That button
disappears and a new button appears as a fin that 'chases' the cursor
until they meet up (i.e., button catches cursor). The button icon
changes to an open shark's mouth, (the first finger) cursor disappears
and is replaced by an amputated stump (button icon), and a chomping
sound is played. After a delay, the original button is restored, the
cursor is restored, and this "jaws" button hides. Once they
demonstrate a skill, fourth graders love to see how long they can
evade the shark.

OK I got rid of the old altBrowser externals. But they still show up
in the list of available externals in the standalone settings.

Also I tried to build the revBrowser sample and it will not load the
revBrowser either.

Any ideas???
