Release 2.0Hello everyone,
After nyloth's last fixes on Sunday, I completed the packaging of 2.0. The final tarballs are available on http://profiles.tikiwiki.org/tikirel/ for the moment. They are also uploaded on SourceForge, but I will wait for an OK to complete the release. A few things remain: * Version on tikiwiki.org must be updated to include this new version * Announcements must be made Congratulations to all, 2.0 is almost out the door. -- LP ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Tikiwiki-devel mailing list Tikiwiki-devel@... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tikiwiki-devel |

Re: Release 2.0I've noticed a LOT of pages on doc.tw.o refer to 1.10. Is there a way
that whomever admins each of the servers can do an SQL search/replace to change 1.10 to 2.0 to make everything consistent? Mike. -----Original Message----- From: tikiwiki-devel-bounces@... Shadowbox (2.0 license)Hi all I just upgraded the version of shadowbox in trunk (locally) to version 2.0 as i wanted to use the Flash video player now included in it (and i couldn't get the old version working for me) and was just about to commit, but then checked the license (after reading the "credits" thread on this list) and it looks to me like it's not compatible anymore. Shadowbox 2.0 is licensed under a Creative Commons non-commercial license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ the FLV player included is the same.) but the old version appears to have been under LGPL - so i guess this means it can't be incorporated into tiki anymore (shame - the new version is great!). Confusingly the code repository (http://code.google.com/p/michaeljackson/) says it's still LGPL but that's probably just an error. Does anyone know of a similar viewer that is still being maintained that we could use? Should we still include a library that is no longer available or supported? Or could it be distributed as a Mod as it's ok for non-commercial use (and only $20 for commercial)? Sorry if this has been discussed before - should have checked first (but sourceforge's list search seem to be broken at the moment) jonny ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Tikiwiki-devel mailing list Tikiwiki-devel@... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tikiwiki-devel |

Re: Shadowbox (2.0 license)Hello,
Maybe you can try contacting the author and ask if we can get an LGPL licence anyway. Otherwise, I have the feeling we have to remove support altogether. If it's not in trunk, it will rot in mods and not be used anyway. -- LP On August 11, 2008 10:28:40 Jonny B wrote: > Hi all > > I just upgraded the version of shadowbox in trunk (locally) to version 2.0 > as i wanted to use the Flash video player now included in it (and i > couldn't get the old version working for me) and was just about to commit, > but then checked the license (after reading the "credits" thread on this > list) and it looks to me like it's not compatible anymore. > > Shadowbox 2.0 is licensed under a Creative Commons non-commercial license > (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/ the FLV player included > is the same.) but the old version appears to have been under LGPL - so i > guess this means it can't be incorporated into tiki anymore (shame - the > new version is great!). > Confusingly the code repository (http://code.google.com/p/michaeljackson/) > says it's still LGPL but that's probably just an error. > > Does anyone know of a similar viewer that is still being maintained that we > could use? Re: Shadowbox (2.0 license)Hi Jonny,
For info, I sent something similar to the developper of Lightbox, a while ago... Maybe you could try too for shadowbox : " Hello, I'm one of the Tikiwiki (tikiwiki.org) developer and I have just included Lightbox2 as an optional third party software in our development branch (1.10), since I found your project very nice. This was the starting point of a discussion about the compatibility between our license (LGPL) and the one you choose (Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License). Debian people seems to consider this CC license not really free (http://people.debian.org/~evan/ccsummary.html). It will be great for a lot of projects if you could choose to dual-license Lightbox2 (see our page about that : http://tikiwiki.org/LibLicense). Thanks, Nyloth. " By the way, if the developper choosed "Creative Commons non-commercial license", instead of another, it is probably for some reason that may imply that he won't offer a dual license. And about shadowbox that didn't work for you, it seems it does not work on trunk for me too. Maybe this is due to the recent upgrade of mootools, but didn't have a deeper look. Nyloth. -----Original Message----- From: tikiwiki-devel-bounces@... Re: Shadowbox (2.0 license)I think there must be a mistake here, as I understand it Creative Commons is not useful for Software.
"Can I use a Creative Commons license for software? We do not recommend it. Creative Commons licenses should not be used for software. We strongly encourage you to use one of the very good software licenses which are already available. We recommend considering licenses made available by the Free Software Foundation or listed at the Open Source Initiative. Unlike our licenses, which do not make mention of source or object code, these existing licenses were designed specifically for use with software." You can use Creative Common for documentation, web designs, photographs etc. but is no use for software source or executable. So there needs to be a bit of "sorting out" with the Shadowbox people. Hope this helps, a little. Re: Shadowbox (2.0 license)hi gary,
nope, i didn't have to contact the author because Shadowbox 1.0 was licensed under LGPL already... what i did is i have just put a comment on his blog post that we use it for Tikiwiki: http://mjijackson.com/blog/2008/what-do-you-use-shadowbox-for/#comment-366 from the README for 1.0 we have (lib/shadowbox/): "Shadowbox is free software: you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation, either version 3 of the License, or (at your option) any later version. Shadowbox is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY; without even the implied warranty of MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. See the GNU Lesser General Public License for more details. You should have received a copy of the GNU Lesser General Public License along with Shadowbox. If not, see <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/>." actually i think best would be for us to continue using 1.0 and if we want to enhance/fix the code (as gary did for the wrapping of the display of shadowbox image title/description) i'd made a fork of the lib, keep it under Tiki (as LGPL) and call it tikibox or something... ;) we can do that, cannot we ? luci PS: and if you want use some free (LGPL compatible) flash player it's already possible with Shadowbox 1.0 iirc On 11/08/08 18:10, Gary Cunningham-Lee wrote: > Hi, > > Luci can inform us on this.
