Fellow developers,

I just finished reading the book "Producing Open Source Software" by
Karl Fogel (http://producingoss.com) and I highly recommend it for
anyone working on open source software or interested in the subject.
The author is a full-time developer on the Subversion project and his
insight comes from practical lessons learned from that role.

For those familiar with "The Cathedral and the Bazaar"
(http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/), Fogel's book is
in the same vein but more extensive, brought up to the year 2006, and
without Eric Raymond's eccentricity. ;-)

I was impressed by the well-roundedness of the book: it covers not only
the technical aspects but social and political issues, effective
communications, balancing volunteers with professional contributors, and
all the things which make managing an open source project unlike
traditional project management.

Reading it made me think of all sorts of things which could make Mule a
more successful OSS project.  I'll try to prepare a list of ideas so we
can discuss them together.

Travis

Great resource, Travis. At the same time, would you give us, the poor, some heads up time to be on the same page with you in order to produce a fruitful discussion? :))

Thanks for the link!
Andrew
