If you are talking about:

<pluginGroups>
    <pluginGroup>com.atlassian.maven.plugins</pluginGroup>
</pluginGroups>

Then this parameter is only required to avoid you to type full groupId on the command line when using clover goals.

With this parameter you can run:
mvn clover2:generate

instead of
mvn com.atlassiona.maven.plugins:clover2:generate

But it is not mandatory.

If this is not the case, then advise how best to only change pom.xml

Clover seems to be removed from HtmlUnit pom.xml.

 

Currently it still needs settings.xml changes, which should NOT be the case. Is there a way to avoid this?
