Apologies. My request was not clear. (I've changed the subject of this post to match my problem.) My problem is that the instructions for using the library in an xcode project seem vague and ambiguous.

I am attempting to follow instructions for doing the sawtooth demo found in the wiki page. I tried to follow them but my attempt didn't work. I am blocked at the initial stage of trying to include the library in the project. The choices given in my xcode project don't match the suggestions in the tutorial.

I think I need someone to tell me which of the 50 odd xcode project types I need to create to use the portaudio library. These project types are determined by things like language used and Apple API packages included by default. I would prefer C++ but starting with one of the C based projects would be fine. The portaudio sawtooth tutorial just said "xcode project" which is an overloaded and ambiguous term. Since the point of that wiki page in the tutorial was to tell me how to use portaudio with xciode that seemed like an appropriate question for this list. I attempted to figure this out using the instrcutions in the beginner tutorial.

I just want any build in xcode as starting point to show how to link in portaudio and make calls to it from C. If the sawtooth demo isn't the right place to start please suggest another.

As a general comment I found the macintosh compile and build instructions to
be a little too terse for someone with my apparently massive level of
ignorance. I had never used the "open" command for example and initially
couldn't figure out where I was supposed to "enter" it. Thinking it was an
xcode thinggy I was looking for an xcode console to type it into. I
eventually figured out that I could do it in bash. The documentation could
have said that (by adding the words "at a shell prompt") and saved me some
time. The doc about xcode assumes that you are still in the directory that
"./configure/; make" left you. It would be nice if it said so. When things
go wrong you wonder about things like that.

That's easy enough to fix, however, I'm not sure going into tremendous detail about XCode is a good idea for the reasons I mentioned in my previous email.

Phil: I am having trouble logging on to trac. The connection just hangs when I try, but what's weird is it doesn't time out.
