Have you tried to get NIMH batteries for an EV lately? Has any grass roots builder? What about Lithium? expensive aren't they? ... Why? We have a pretty good group of grassroots builders that want them, but now because NIMH is restricted the price stays high. Can you spell monopoly?lol!
So that leaves us with lead acid which has relatively low range. that low range is often less than 100 miles. "They go less that 100 mi per charge & the consumer dosn't want short range cars like that!" I call this a chevron fulfilling prophsey (since they're the ones who own the NIMH patent). the result has been low speed neighborhood vehicles being built and offered as a compromise. Now the consumer thinks that an EV is a golf cart. They have thought this out well and planned in advance!
I would like to see more battery options and less restriction. It would make things so much easier for us "grass roots builders"!
