Thanks very much for your help!
As it turns out it is the namelength rather than special characters.
What threw me is the fact that some tracks were recognised at second try. In fact I have been unable to change these filenames to match names of other tracks (presumable they are invalid???), so will need to extract them again.
Shame that there is no standard error message for filename too long. Although I guess the file creqation error message does point in that direction...

Have you verified the track names/titles? Very often in classical Music the titles are over-lengthed. And as Andre suggested, are there any 'forbidden' characters in the titles?
