Similar problem here, can't get latest v1.8.0 it to launch on Mac OSX 10.5, the icon bounces a few times and the pgAdmin3 name appears in the menu bar but nothing else, I then have to force quit. This is on a PPC Powermac G5, whereas same OS and pgAdmin version on an Intel MacBook Pro works perfectly. Hi Phill, I was able to test on a PPC/Leopard box over the weekend, and pgAdmin worked perfectly. Can you provide more info about your machine please - language/locale in particular. Also, are you about to build form source and run it up in the debugger? Re: pgAdmin 1.8RC1 - failed to launch on Mac OS XI have the same problem with pgAdmin 1.8.0 (and 1.9 linked above), on a PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz running OS X Leopard. The application bounces in the dock and nothing else happens, and eventually I have to force quit it. |

One thought - these two reports are not the same as the original one (which was an actual crash) - can you please try removing the pgadmin3 preferences file from ~/Library/Preferences and then starting pgAdmin? Can you please start pgAdmin so it sits on the dock, and then in a terminal window, run ps -ef |grep pg_dump I found I had a zombie pg_dump process (pgAdmin calls pg_dump at startup to check the version). I then renamed the copy of pg_dump in the pgAdmin appbundle, and one I had in /usr/local/bin (you might have others in the path of course). After I killed pgAdmin, it then started just fine. /D ---------------------------(end of broadcast)--------------------------- TIP 1: if posting/reading through Usenet, please send an appropriate subscribe-nomail command to majordomo@... so that your message can get through to the mailing list cleanly |

Re: pgAdmin 1.8RC1 - failed to launch on Mac OS XYay, that worked fine for me as well! How will the renaming of pg_dump affect the usage of PostgreSQL? I renamed one in /usr/local/bin/ and one in pgAdmin 1.8 and 1.9 respectively. Is there any risk that some automated process in another part of pgAdmin or PostgreSQL will fail since this file cannot be found? |

Is there any risk that some automated > process in another part of pgAdmin or PostgreSQL will fail since this file > cannot be found? pgAdmin won't fail - though it will probably not offer you backup/restore options. pg_dumpall will fail in PostgreSQL though, as might any cron jobs oyu have calling pg_dump. One workaround that should work would be to create a shell script called that echoes the same text as output from 'pg_dump --version' and point pgAdmin's PostgreSQL Bin Dir config option (under File -> Options) to the directory containing the script. That should fool pgAdmin into using the shell script for backups (which won't work, but won't hang either), which will cause it to leave the real pg_dump alone.
