this used to be fixed in C.
now it it fixed in a more generic way, using the variable
XLIB:*CANONICALIZE-ENCODING*

the default value fixes your problem, although I am no longer convinces
that we should do it in our distribution - maybe you should customize
XLIB:*CANONICALIZE-ENCODING* yourself instead.

Please try cvs head and report your experiences here.
