have you looked at this technote "Working with 4D and iCalendars" (http://www.4d.com/knowledgebase?CaseID=35197 
)
Frank Chang's tech note includes code to generate an iCalendar file/
stream format in 4D.
It is not complete in the sense that it does not implement all of RFC  
2445, but it is a good start and you can add any missing pieces you  
need.
Works beautiful with iCal and Outlook 2007. Prior versions of outlook  
requires an addin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/remotecalendars/)
