Running an ASUS, make commands draw "no such command"  - is there an alternate command in Debian distros for "make"?

james@Samoa:~$ which make
/usr/bin/make
james@Samoa:~$ dpkg -S /usr/bin/make
make: /usr/bin/make

So, in theory `apt-get install make` should do it.

It might be better to `apt-get install build-essential` though, as that pulls
in other things you might need to build from source.
