On Ubuntu, I had to uninstall all packaged nvidia drivers, which switches xorg.conf back to the "nv" driver. After installing from the nvidia installer, I changed it back to nvidia. With this setup, I don't get any output from my videocard until KDM has started. Re: Nvidia driver issues (was: GSoC releases)Havent tried it in win32 yet, but will as soon as possible. I have
been using gdm as my desktop manager, but might try kdm if i cant get it working soon. I am however away from that pc till next weekend, so i will convert a couple more of the plugins using emulation mode. We should also discuss benchmarking etc so that we can properly analyse the performance of the gpu implementations. Thanks for the help so far. I don't expect the display manager will change anything, I merely described what I did to get things working here. > I am however away from that pc till next weekend, so i will convert a > couple more of the plugins using emulation mode. For a straight comparison between GPU and non-GPU plugins, the easiest way would be to create the same tests for the GPU and non-GPU versions for the dashboard. The dashboard tests are timed, so this gives us an easy way to evaluate performance. See i.e. http://www.k-3d.org/cdash/testDetails.php?test=11034&build=238 It would be interesting to see a breakdown between the calculation time and transfer to and from main memory, though. This should allow us to evaluate what can be gained by passing data between plugins without going through the main memory. Re: Nvidia driver issues (was: GSoC releases)Hi Bart
Just to let you know that I have gotten the drivers installed and they seem to be working. In the end all that was needed was for me to flash my bios - (which was obvious after the card worked off the bat in another machine) - still have to get the system sorted out wrt dependencies etc, but that shouldn't take too long ... so I should have some more good news shortly - and since this hurdle is now out of the way, I can really get cracking. Thanks for the advice. Evan On Sun, Apr 27, 2008 at 11:23 PM, Bart Janssens <bart.janssens@...> wrote:
