Thanks, that's great! (and the whiskey lurch too).

Adagio CM, what's that? never heard of it and Google can't find it...
(please excuse I'm meanwhile more a mixing desk and microphone
electrician than a composer)

I'm doing music/media/audio/video/writing/printing/electronics and other
stuff meanwhile since more than twenty years but you are the first one
who asks. Where are the other millions? I'm afraid this is a minority
problem.

However, this doesn't mean that there could be no solution found for
this, but I'm not sure wether I have understood your question right.

I think what could be possible is writing an external converter, who
changes the tuning of a 12-TET MIDI file (e.g. from noteworthy composer)
to a Pythagorean or Ptolemean tuning.

But this probably only will work if the original song was written in C
(as the fundamental note, not the programming language C), and I first
must read the MIDI spec wether the a440 tuning has an influence on the
MIDI tone-on and tone-off messages.

I also know somebody (who in former times was used to read this list too,
so I'm wondering why he hasn't responded to your questions), and who just
writes a Python (programming language) MIDI processor.

I will forward your question to his email address too.

Regarding selling for 10 or 20 bucks, please keep in mind that Nyquist as
well as Common Music are restricted to non-commercial use only. This
doesn't mean that you're forbidden to sell your compositions, but selling
a MIDI converter, which is based on one of these software packages, for
money, will not be possible, or at least not without the permission of
Roger Dannenberg (Nyquist) or Rick Taube (Common Music).

Edgar;

yes indeed, the starting point has to be specified. If the tuning is by
rational fractions, the key of C would be a logical starting point. But
it can be extended to nearby keys. In fact, the Classical (Mozart,
Hayden) period is all in "nearby keys". Will put up the Hymn to Apollo,
midi/and noteworthy file, in a week or so. It is in Bb, The
musicologists extended it into that key by perfect 4ths 4/3.

A vast number of people use midi files, but give up, because it does not
sound good. If there is a better way; then everybody will do it that
way. It is true that only one pest wants it, at the moment--but things
change.
