I use Backuppc. It is well supported by a community of
people and has the ability to do the things you require. I'm
not a sys admin and was able to set it up for automatic
backups of my server, laptop and family MS desktop using
rsync rsyncd, and smbtar. It has good documentation and a
user list that is very active.
