HI Dev

I'm wondering if anyone has some info about changes to the
tiki-install.php for 2.0 - like if they have made it work from them.

I also know nothing about this "installer" folder and what is going on there.

mlpvolt> having fun testing 2.0 - hit a stumbling block - the
install.php - can't seem to reactivate it.
        <zorp> you mean tiki-setup.php?
<mlpvolt> i think i had a bad DB upgrade on this test so i wanted to
go back and run it again - re-uploaded the tiki-install.php
<mlpvolt> this may be the problem - if there are changes i don't know about.
<mlpvolt> the problem is that running tiki-install.php keeps bouncing
me back to the home page.
        <zorp> you sure you don't mean tiki-setup.php?
<chibaguy> mlpvolt, is that a new install or an update?
<mlpvolt> it was an upgrade from 1.10 rc1 to 2
<mlpvolt> i wiped the whole file tree, uploaded the 2.0 release and
pointed to tiki-install.php
        <mlpvolt> - the usual procedure
<chibaguy> How far do you get through the install page?
<mlpvolt> i selected the 1.9 to 2.0 upgrade and ran it.
<mlpvolt> however it was a little weird - it then skipped the step
where it says "upgrade complete" then the choices to proceed to
homepage and disable installer or not. - it took me straight to the
homepage.
<mlpvolt> i would like to run the installer again but now pointing to
tiki-install.php lands me on the home page.
        <chibaguy> The only 1.10b to 2.0 upgrade I've done, I just overwrote
files and updated the db, so I didn't test the install page.
<mlpvolt> i looked and the code for install.php and at the end there
was (not claiming to be much of a coder) something that looked like a
smarty variable for "installer disabled" and maybe that was "on" and i
was being redirected.
<chibaguy> Maybe ask on the dev mailing list. (voila!)
<mlpvolt> plus there is a whole new "installer" folder now that is new to me.
        <mlpvolt> so i'm confused now. :)

While testing I found a couple of unfriendly behaviors - as I never
worked on the install script - better to ask before
1) why the install script asks me to clean the cache - it can do by
itself???
2) why when running an upgrade, I see again change the admin password? I
should only see 'go to tiki'. I suppose we can be done by testing the
admin never log-in
3) do we stop to rename the script?
My 2 cents

Hello,

These are related to changes I made before the release. Disabling the script
would not work in all situations and the login used by the installer also
would not work in all situations. I made it so that once tiki is installed,
the installer requires you to be logged-in as an administrator to run the
script. Probably not clear at this time, but it really isn't much different
from what it did before with the installer removed.

Change the admin password is also one change I made. Before, it would bring
you to tiki, then you would have to log-in and change the password. The login
information was hard to find. I figured that if I made the link to change the
password and write it next to it, people would notice it. May not be the best
solution. Revamp of the installer is on nyloth's todo list for 3.0 if I
remember well.

HI Louis,

so if i understand correctly, once the site is initially installed, i have to

a) login as admin
b) then goto mysite/tiki-install.php

Is that it?

Yes.

In fact, an other reason for this that installations using svn would restore
the file on each update, making the disable not so useful.

The only thing I would add to this is that on some systems it may take
some time to perform the upgrade.  It would be nice to provide a notice
of some sort that the process could take several minutes to complete, or
if we're able, provide a meter or running dialog of what is being done
as part of the upgrade process since there is otherwise no indication
that anything is happening.

Otherwise, awesome job, I upgraded with no problems at all.

A minor cleanup issue that might be addressed at a later time is if I
previously ran cvs 1.9x and my system does not have SVN capability, I'm
forced to use the tarball package.  Is there a way that someone can diff
the files that are part of the 1.9x and 2.0 trees so that the
superfluous ones can be deleted?  I can see this being a security issue
as well as a cleanup issue.  Starting a new tree can be more complicated
that its worth since one has to copy old files and directories and I can
never remember what they are.

But, as I said, great job, the upgrade went well on my test box.  Now I
just need to work on 2.0 to get my 1.9 changes into it.

Mike.

My 2 cents

2.0 installer (1.9 -> 2.0 upgrade)

Hi all

A couple of days ago i had a hack in a "return true" into tiki-install.php
to be able to upgrade a site (to branches/2.0) - tiki-login.php was breaking
due to database changes required to upgrade from 1.9 to 2.0 while logging in
(something about group home page - sorry, lost the error now)

It used to work ok - i tried to see what was wrong but it all gets quite
messy and involved and i'm not sure what's been going on here recently (or
what the aim was). My suggestion would be that the installer should use as
little of the rest of the app as possible to avoid this kind of thing.

Sorry, other bugs of my own to squash, must focus...
