Hello Radiant contributors,

I have just patched Mailer extension to upload files. It works
great. Thank you Tobin Richard and Sean Cribbs. Working with
Radiant is so much fun and fairly straight forward. I've found
everything I've needed already here so far. I look forward to
making many more sites with Radiant!

RadiantCMS Action Mailer

Reinstalled Mailer Extension from new URL. Referring to howto, on the
wiki.radiantcms, editing the config/environment.rb.

The HOWTO says to:

remove :action_mailer from the list

# Skip frameworks you're not going to use
config.frameworks -= [ :action_web_service ]

Which I did.

Now, add the following configuration parameters (put it at the end of
the file, just before the line that reads require "status")

Reviewing the complete file, with this Mailer Extension, there is no line

"require status"

Configure ActionMailer for Mailer extension
ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = {
:address => "your.smtp.server",
:port => 25,
:domain => "your.domain"
}

I am using Google Apps for mail and was wondering how to mod the above
section. Searching through the RadiantCMS archives and code base, I am
unable to find any reference to
Mailer and Gmail.

After some googling (I know, it's a brand, not a verb) I found this

Is this the solution or does RadiantCMS need something else?

That is correct. Over the weekend we have switched to a new set of
servers that necessitated the URL change.

map.resources and extensions

Hi list,

I am tracking radiant svn and am setting up a new extension following
the tutorial.

I have the extension loading up and am using scaffold generated by
rails 2.

The problem i am having is that i get a lot of

undefined method `project_path' for #<ActionView::Base:0x34205ec>
errors.

Not being very good at routing i was hoping someone could help.

in my routes i have

define_routes do |map|

map.namespace(:admin) do |admin|
admin.resources :projects
end
end

rake routes shows they are set up correctly, but if i include
something like (this is stock rails scaffold)

<tr>
<td><%=h project.name %></td>
<td><%=h project.mailing_list %></td>
<td><%= link_to 'Show', project %></td> ** This line trips the
error **
<td><%= link_to 'Edit', edit_project_path(project) %></td>

It gives me the above error.

Anyone have an idea? does map.resources work with extensions or am i
going to have to wright named routes instead?

Fixed: WYMeditor filter works inconsistently

I wanted to follow up on the issue I had with the WYMeditor filter from
2-1/2 weeks ago. See

Benny Degezelle looked at an online instance I set up of WYMEditor
filter running with the Radiant demo version and checked the diffs in
the public/wymeditor tree. It turned out that his svn:external for the
WYMeditor itself was pulling its code directly from the trunk; this
caused the weird behavior I saw.

So here's what Benny did in his own repository - he constrained the
svn:externals to the proper revision to work with his own code. So if
you check out or export the WYMeditor filter from his repository you
should also get the correct revision of WYMeditor. For the record,
here's how it looks from the root of his extension in
vendor/extensions/wym_editor_filter:

billb@lyell wym_editor_filter $ svn propget svn:externals public
wymeditor -r 465 svn://svn.wymeditor.org/wymeditor/trunk/src

Since that time I've been careful to constrain all the svn:externals in
my project to so that changes in their trunks don't cause breakage in my
own project.

Radiant CMS Documentation

Hi Everyone,

In the past couple of weeks, there has been some talk about Radiant CMS
documentation. One of my earlier posts has been brought up a couple of
times, and I have also sorta volunteered to help coordinate an effort
for this.

Right now, I have about 3 - 4 people who have emailed either the list or
me directly to express their interest. To maximize the time that people
spend on this, I would like to see if it's possible to come out with a
list of things that have already been written and then see what else is
needed urgently and what can be written in due course.

Also, I think it's best if different people don't write about the same
thing.

Here's what I would like to request from you. Like most Rails things,
there's a lot of documentation that exists as people's blog posts.

If you have written anything on your blog that could be taken as being
Radiant documentation (partial or full), please reply to this email or
email me offlist at "tech at onghu.com" so that we have a list of
everything that's been written for it. Then, we can see what else is
needed or where we need more detail.

It is probably started as a fcgi process, since its on a shared host?
Then, just change the timestamp on public/dispatch.fcgi:

$ touch path/to/dispatch.fcgi

The fcgi process will restart as soon as it noticess the change,
practically imediatelly. You could also send a message to the process
to kill itself explicitely with a (s)kill command:

$ skill -9 <PID>

(same for the kill command). PID stands for process id. Use the "ps"
command to find out the PID of the fcgi process:

$ ps ux

Or you could kill them all:

$ skill -9 dispatch.fcgi

(won't work for "kill" command)

Or you could just wait for it to reastart automatically. :) Sorry,
this is written for total beginners, I'm not sure how good is your
"command line fu".

after_save not being called on create for extensions?

Hi folks,

I've built a simple extension to manage artwork for an artist. It uses
attachment_fu in much the same way that page_attachments does.
Unfortunately, so far I've had to make it so that the user has to save
the record before adding attachments to it, because I the after_save
callback doesn't fire on create.

I've looked at page_attachments for a while and see no differences,
except that it extends the Page model which is not loaded as an
extension. It makes me wonder if sometime during the loading of
extensions the after_save gets broken? I haven't been able to figure
it out yet.

Any chance someone can shed some light on this...?

Yes, a restart is required for extensions to work. They would have worked intermittently because you have multiple
fastcgi/mongrel/etc processes running - it sometimes worked as soon as one was restarted (which normally happens periodically on a
shared host) and started working properly after all the processes got restarted.

If you've restarted and still get the application error messages, look in your production.log file and see what it's reporting.

Extensions not appearing immediately ... weird

Hello,

I am running Radiant on a HostingRails shared server.

1.
I installed a couple of extensions (Shards + Wymeditor) and migrated the
database. I refreshed the admin extensions page and it did not reflect
the new extensions. It took about 20 minutes before the extensions
appeared. Then they disappeared and reappeared several times until
finally staying. Has anybody heard of anything like this?

Is there a vital step I am missing that must be performed after
installing any extensions (like a server reboot?).

2.
In addition, after installing these two extensions I receive a
"Application error (Apache)" error *only* on the "/admin/pages" page.
This error has been discussed in the forums but I didn't find a clear
solution. I am almost positive this error is related to the extensions,
but it's hard to troubleshoot with the inconsistent delay to any
extension changes (mentioned above).

RadiantCMS Site Documentation

I am looking for a HOWTO/Tutorial on the RadiantCMS site to help me through
making a new site from scratch on Radiant. So far it was easy and quick to
make a Home page, with a set Layout and a Stylesheet.

I have two other XHTML layouts that I want to use, and have elements common
to all of the pages that will be shared beween them all.

The setup will be like this:

Home page -- Layout01
|
==> About Us -- Layout02
|
|==> Subpage01 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage02 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage03 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage04 -- Layout03
==> Sales -- Layout02
|
|==> Subpage01 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage02 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage03 -- Layout03
|==> Subpage04 -- Layout03

... and so on

The home page is actually composed of 6 snippets and the layout, which makes
it un-necessary to modify via the main page body panel. However the other
pages have content that needs to be modified frequently, but I can't seem to
set this up to allow Radiant to do it's thing.

Does anyone have a good document to look at/share?

Is this new version of radiant going to use the Rails 2 new CSRF
protection system?. In the SVN trunk I can only see this feature
explictly disabled on test enviroment (config/enviroments/test.rb#27)
and since the application.rb is still unchanged (with no
protect_from_forgery as in the new Rails2 apps) that suggest me that
the CSRF measures are going disabled.

I know radiant's forms are mostly handmaded without helpers (same for
the ajax processes) and that enabling the anti-forgery measures will
break a few forms/views. So... what is your view about this?. I'll
gladly submit the needed patches if finally we go with the protected
version (even if this go fot the 0.6.6... ).

Last but by no means least... thanks to the radiant community for
this great software and to all the commiters for this new version.

Migrating to AVLUX

Guys,

The wonderful guys over at AVLUX have been working hard setting up a
new hosting solution for the Radiant CMS Web site. Almost everything
is in place now, but I'd like help ensuring that everything has been
copied over correctly. If you have time to help out, modify your /etc/
hosts file to include the following:

75.126.22.3 radiantcms.org dev.radiantcms.org lists.radiantcms.org
75.126.79.160 wiki.radiantcms.org

And cruise on over to the new web site. Please let us know here if you
see any discrepancies. The data for everything but the mailing lists
should be up to date as of last night. If all goes well we will be
migrating the site this evening.

Don't forget to change your /etc/hosts file back when you are done.

2 questions about modifying radiant for my needs

I love Radiant! Great CMS!
I have a local copy and would like to try extending/changing it in two ways - need a little help, or at least pointed in the right direction in the code.

1. I would like to modify things such that the edit page (main work area) and the file tree (tree structure of pages) are on the same page . I.E. the page hierarchy is on the left and the edit view is in the middle. Can you help me get started with this? what files would need to be modified etc?

2. I would like to ultimately use this CMS to update the content of a site by sending the data(content, changes ..) to the site via FTP. So I am thinking instead of just rendering to the screen, to somehow FTP the updates or complete site data to ultimate location, some other site. Does this make sense? So I guess instead of just 'publish' or 'view site', I need to create the ability to FTP and send the information to another location. Can you help me get started with this? What file would I insert such a method or logic and what might this FTP code look like? Seems like with Rails it might be easy to simply add a method that somehow wraps all the data pertaining to a site being controlled by Radiant and FTP'ing that information somewhere.

But I am new to Radiant and Rails for that matter, so your help would be hugely appreciated!

I don't see Rails Engines included anywhere in its source. Am I missing
something?

As far as i know, page_attachments does not use shards.
I'm still quite sure that this is a shards issue instead of a WYM filter
issue, since the editor works fine for snippets.

Do you load shards before your other extensions (as in config.extensions
order)?

with redmine - it's a snap to create svn repositories. With Trac comes
Apache VHosts or svnserve manual permissions etc etc - not quite fuels
for a kickstarter like radiant.

But the real killer app would be if you guys would hook into redmine
development creating an alternative for the current redmine wiki modul
... adding a radiant plugin - however I'm brainstorming - think of
dropping radiants shy "small team" idea.

I think redmine suffers a little from 'rails engines' - deserves a cure
which you'd sure have to offer!

There's nothing wrong with Redmine. In fact, I like a lot of things
about it. However, simply because it's a Rails application doesn't mean
that's a compelling reason to switch. I'd like to hear some opinions
from people who use Redmine regularly about its pros and cons.

Redmine looks interesting, but I think we are pretty satisfied with
Trac right now. What benefits would switching to Redmine have?

I suppose I am. Right now it's running on my Textdrive shared hosting
account. We will be migrating to AVLUX shortly though as they have
graciously offered to handle the server admin stuff and host it.
