RFR: debsums debconf templatesHello,
Here are two debconf questions I would like to see reviewed (one of which is new): Template: debsums/apt-autogen Type: boolean Default: true _Description: Should debsum files be automatically generated by apt-get? Not all packages contain debsum information as is. However, debsums can be installed so that apt will automatically generate debsum files of installed packages. This may be useful for checking system integrity later, though it should not be relied on as a security measure. Template: debsums/dailycron Type: boolean Default: true _Description: Run daily debsums security check? By default, a cronjob will verify every package's checksum information every night to make sure that none of the files have changed since the package was installed. . This security check takes some time to run but is highly recommended. Thanks! Francois -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-l10n-english-REQUEST@... with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? They're md5sum files generated by debsums - unless there's a /usr/bin/debsum I don't think you get to talk about "debsum" files. _Description: Should debsums files be automatically generated by apt-get? Not all packages contain debsums information. However, debsums can be configured so that apt will automatically generate debsums files for installed packages. Re: RFR: debsums debconf templatesI'm unsure who wants CCs. Taking best guess...

Also, this sounds like configuring apt to call debsums - isn't it? "but" seems clearer than "though" and it's not used already. "relied on" or "relied upon"? Possible mod:- _Description: Should debsums files be generated automatically by apt-get? Not all packages contain debsums information. However, apt can be configured to generate debsums files for installed packages automatically. This may be useful for checking system integrity later, but it should not be relied upon as a security measure. > > Template: debsums/dailycron > > Type: boolean > > Default: true > > _Description: Run daily debsums security check? > > By default, a cronjob will verify every package's checksum information > > every night to make sure that none of the files have changed since the > > package was installed. > > . > > This security check takes some time to run but is highly recommended. Maybe change "Run" to "Install" - execution depends on there being a cron running, doesn't it? Other than that, this one looks fine to me.
