Not with useradd, as you write it's geared up to passwd/shadow.
I run LDAP at a site where at least 170 new pupils/teachers/staff out of
a total of 1,500+ users come and as many go each year and I had to write
my own shell/awk combination in the first place for adding these to
LDAP, since replaced by perl. An LDAP POSIX account (at any rate an LDAP
user) can have masses more information than passwd or even NIS. Then
again, think of including Samba users in LDAP. And no, the script's not
worthy of letting loose on other people, I'm not the world's best writer
of perl ...
