Question about protege

Hallo,
My name is Poulimenou Sylvia and i am starting my PhD at the department of Archival and Library Sciences of the Ionian University in Greece in the field of biomedical ontologies.
I would like to pose a question about protege and ontologies generally. Is it possible to link two different ontologies via protege. For example can i import 2 or more different ontologies into a single project and create relations between them, add individuals and so on?

Thank you in advance

Hi Sylvia,

Welcome to the Protege. What are you trying to do is possible, indeed.
If you are working with Frames ontologies (saved in .pins and .pont
files by Protege) you can include other Frames ontologies by using the
*Project -> Manage Included Project...* menus.

If you are working with OWL ontologies, you can import other OWL
ontologies in your ontology by using the Metadata tab, which can be
activated (if not already visible) from the
*Project -> Configure...* menus. After Metadata tab is visible select it
and use the "*Import ontology...*" button (representing a file icon with
a + sign) on the upper left corner.

Good luck,
Csongor

I have a problem that sounds to basic for protégé experts: I can't  make
any changes in the ontology that I imported in my new file, I don't
know why... How can I modify the imported ontology in the new ontololy
that contain it?
Thanks for your answers
J.

In the Metadata Tab (activate it using the Project->Configure menu, if
you don't already see it) you have to select the imported ontology you
would like to edit and click on the "Set active ontology" button showing
a pencil. If the imported ontology is not editable, because it was
imported in a read only mode, first you have to make it editable using
the Repository Manager, accessible through the OWL -> Ontology
repositories... menus.
