Problems with .obj-Import

Hello,

I'm a german teacher and i want to use K-3D during my lessons together
with a simple 3D-Scanner. (http://www.david-laserscanner.com/).
I can export  wavefront-files (.obj) with the software from
david-laserscanner and i want to import theses files to K-3D. The
Problem is, the import works, no error message, but i don't see anything
in K-3D :-(. It looks like there were imported nothing :-(.

Is someone out there who's able to help me?

Many Thanks, Markus Lensing

Yes :-)
If there is a Delay don't worry, we are still reading.

We will need some more specific information, like:
- which k-3d version you are using and platform
- which were the steps you followed
- send us a compressed example file through the bug tracker if you can.
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=11113&atid=111113

If your .obj is made of several objects i guess it will only import the first
mesh (if you are using OBJMeshReader plugin). Or you may be using an older K-3D
which used to had a Obj importer.

For example i can import this file (with OBJMeshReader)
http://www.3droad.com/Zip1/GroundJS00.zip

Cheers!
Joaquín

It works with the OBJMeshImport and your OBJ-File, but not with the
OBJMeshImport and my file :-(.
I'll try to send you one of my files later,

Thanks a lot,
Markus

I took a new simple scan with david-laserscanner and tried it to open in
K-3D without sucess.
Here ist the test.obj:

Thank you,

On 0.7.4 on ubuntu feisty fawn i can read it with OBJMeshReader.
Although it's imported scaled and rotated (90º).
Try to check if the object is too far by unzooming.

There is no binary for 0.7.4 on ubuntu. You should compile it, its not very
difficult.

Cheers!

Markus:

As Joaquin mentioned, it works fine with K-3D 0.7.5.0:

http://www.k-3d.org/wiki/Image:20080516-laser-scanner.png

You'll be interested to know that we are currently
mentoring a student through the Google Summer of Code who is working on
file import/export issues, so feel free to mention any problems that
come up.  For example, I note that your sample data contains texture
coordinates that are currently ignored by K-3D's OBJMeshReader plugin -
is that a capability you'll miss in the short-term?

Regards,
tim
