Hi,

there seems to be a problem with the latest updates.

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[german]{babel}%
\begin{document}
Test
\end{document}

leads to:

("C:\Programme\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\generic\babel\babel.def"
! Undefined control sequence.
\main@language ...bbl@main@language \bbl@patterns
                                                   {\languagename }
l.131 \main@language{english}

! LaTeX Error: Missing \begin{document}.

See the LaTeX manual or LaTeX Companion for explanation.
Type  H <return>  for immediate help.
  ...

l.131 \main@language{english}

)
! Undefined control sequence.
\main@language ...bbl@main@language \bbl@patterns
                                                   {\languagename }
l.176 \ldf@finish\CurrentOption

)) (test2.aux)

Can anybody confirm this?

Josef

I can confirm. It seems to be a bug in the 'babel' package rather than
MiKTeX related because using an older babel.def works fine. I already
reported it to Johannes Braams.

This is Johannes' answer:

Let's try to rebuild the formats.

It has already been discussed in c.t.t. You only need to update the
formats.  (The hyphen.cfg has changed).
