I am considering making a quilt to use for summer backpacking and
wanted to know if anyone has used Primaloft for this. How much is
needed to make a quilt that will work for 30 degrees in the mountains?
Is this insulation too heavy for a lightweight quilt? Thanks.Lydia

I don't know about a quilt, but there is something else that you
may
have an interest in.
How about if you could have a sleeping matress, groundcloth, winter
insulation layer for tent interior, comfy blanky thingy all in one.
I'm not up on my memorization or study/gear search for a while, but
there was a blanket listed in backpacker from , somethin like ExPed
something something, that had a layer of foam about an eighth of an
inch thick, (1/4) doubled).
It's bigger thaN a standard lazy boy blanket (<50x70), and super
incredibily cheap. $30-40.00 bucks. , folds well and weighs like 10
or
14 or 16-17 ounces.Does n t slip
Oh, measures , like standards therma @ 20-22 inches by about that
big.
It should be enough to cover your  self and then there's taboo of
going without a sleeping bag at 30-20.
The best of PrimaLoft is prolly gona way ...mmm 'bout an ounce and
a
quarter i guess.

I have made a few quilts with the Primaloft.  For me - I used 2 layers of pre-quilted 3 oz. Primaloft sport.(Offsetting the sew through quilting to eliminate possible cold spots) The prequilted uses 2 pieces of scrim fabric on each side.  The quilting is required to support the primaloft and I used yarn loops passing through the quilt.  I also have draft stopper flaps (10" wings down the sides) and clip-on straps to go under my sleeping pad to secure quilt in cold weather.
AYCE at through-hiker was looking to make another run of his quilted primaloft.  His would be better because he uses PL1 (finer, softer, more compressable, warmer etc..)  It was suppose to be 6 oz, 1 layer scrim and then 1 layer of the Black Momentum 90.  All you would have to do is add a top shell.   You would have to check his site to see the status.
