I've been working on an app that so far is very complex and long (and
still counting), and now i have the following:

1. A file weigthing 70kb. When i try to run it it runs fine, but if i
try to compile it i get a error 8 code 516 error. I'm assuming the
limitation is for the file size. If i run pmem i get 1021 used out of
near 5000 when running with main form only (A function constructs
certain form, another that handles it, breaking and calling). So: do i
have a limitation with the no. of functions (and there are A LOT), i'm
running out of memory, or it's the doc size? I'm on a Zire 72.

2. i've implemented a "cursor" for my app, a square that draws around
a button and "moves" using the keys. I now use fontsmoother and have
several fonts compilated, but the cursor keeps fixed. At the sides,
and top&botton of a drawn button, how many pixels there are? I have
guessed (fnt_width*strlen)+fnt_width*2, but it doesn't work with all
the fonts. Since i could fix the size of a textfield regardless of the
heigth/width, and change at will the font without altering the spacing
so much, i can't get the size of the cursor to get rigth, and my app
is far so heavy for fixing it (e.g. at 62*25 pix at certain button,
80*28 bold, and every size different from each other). Any ideas?

3. My app is an organyser (it does laundry, writes poems, haves
karaoke funtions and etc. hahaha) and i want it to set OS alarms, the
ones you can set in the next 24 hours with the clock app, not the
calendar ones. How can i set them? (I used to have those things, i
almost swear this is something in saved preferences, but if anyone
haves all this documentation, along with tasks calendar DB format, and
sys prefs, i guess i'll be thankful if someone can upload the file for
me - only for some days, so i can download it.)

And many thanks in advance!

I wrote a simple Plua2 application that modifies the Contacts/Address

I am able to force a sync by changing the PC Hot Sync parameters to

Ambrose,

There may be a way to register your Palm Plua application with an outside scheduling app such as "Crony v3.0" (http://www.freewarepalm.com/clock/crony.shtml) to achieve a similar functionality. I am not endorsing Crony, but as you can see on the Freeware Palm page, it has gotten some good reviews from users. If other Plua developers know of better scheduling software, perhaps they can add their opinion to this conversation.

Good luck.

pluac-2.0i is now available. This version has the fix I made for Pal. If you
already downloaded the test version to use, this is exactly the same. Although
this was in the endian .pdb code, it should have compiled the same, so I'm
not sure exactly what I fixed :) thus I'm keeping the old pluac-2.0 up just in
case. If you have a problem with one, try the other, but 2.0i works fine on my
Tiger G5 and on Pal's Leopard Intel system.

This is a PowerPC binary and is still supported on 10.2.8. Any future feature
> > Thanks for the quick response...
>
> I'm not sure if this is an endian problem from running on Intel, but the
> plua2c binary is PPC and should run under Rosetta, so I doubt that's the
> issue. Regardless, I made a small running change, which still works locally,
> so please tell me if this fixes your problem (PPC binary 10.2+):
>
> http://www.floodgap.com/software/macplua/mtest.zip
>
> This contains 'pluae2c' (notice name change) to distinguish it from the old
> one. If this works, I will substitute the binary into a new release and
> change the filename back.
>
> At some point I really need to do an Intel version, I just keep getting
> sidetracked (I do have a Core 2 Duo mini I bought for this purpose but other
> tasks get in the way).

You don't have to access the"BUILTIN" region of PalmOS to edit files in the RAM. You can open, edit or create all kinds of databases in RAM using io.open functions. Just have a a look in the manual. File manupilation in Plua is more than enough for most of our needs.
source code probably wouldn't help. But I wouldn't mind trying a
binary. Given the multitasking issues, my goal here would be to
simply force a certain screen (phone, home, etc.) every time Plua
> > this be a planned feature, or is there some technical hurdle? For
> > example, I'd like to write a script that does some
> > processing/cataloging of the photos in the "Photos & Videos"
> > directory.
>
> I do not know what DBCache is, but if it is a standard PalmOS database
> (PDB) you can open it with io.open(), read or write records, etc.

I'm hoping for a way to access the "Builtin" volume that appears in
FileZ when you enable the "Show Hidden Volumes" setting. I'm not sure
if this DBCache or direct access to NVFS. The Resco Explorer docs
describe it like this: "NVFS databases can't be accessed directly.
Therefore Palm OS reserves part of RAM called DbCache. Prior to its
use the databases are copied from NVFS to the DbCache and after the
use they are copied back (if changed) or just purged (otherwise)."

Might you have any plans for a vfs01: (?) to access this storage?
> > GUI-less helper scripts that run "in the background". I compiled a
> > demo from the manual that creates a new .pdb file. Each time it runs,
> > it generates a white screen for a few seconds, and the screen that
> > follows isn't necessarily what I was previously viewing. I know
> > something about multitasking (or lack thereof) in Palm OS, but is
> > there a way around this specific problem?
>
> Plua programs can not run in the background. They will always open a
> blank screen, as you noticed.

I stumbled on Plua just last week and now found my way here. It will
several references stating that RAM could hold only .prc and .pdb
files. As I can see several .jpeg photos staring back at me, I'm
guessing this applies only to normal ram and not to DBCache?)
