I think that this course was very helpful, but as I stated before, I wish that I had enrolled in it my first semester. That is something I will counsel other new students to do. It would help you to keep your head above water the first semester as you adjust to COFTS. Although I enjoyed the self reflection required of this course, my favorite part was the retreat where the Lord planted the roots for several amazing friendships. I look forward to seeing what fruit they bare. I miss seeing some of your faces weekly and hope to get in our "bonding" time sometime soon!
Love and blessings- Kip

This course has helped me (an ENFP) to focus on the calling upon my life and the mission of the Seminary. I is always good to reflect upon truths that the Lord led us to, which is what My Testimony did. As a Pentecostal, I have become focused on the circumstances and power of God revealed in my testimony. The assessments and the Retreat were perhaps the most insightful aspects of the class to me. They allowed me to step outside of myself and see what I bring into or take away from the Lord's ministry. I have learned to recognize my weaknesses and affirm my strengths as a Christ follower. In addition, it is always helpful to review the mission statement and goals of the Seminary, its President and its programs. This heightens us to be recognize the goals and Spirit of those instructing us at the Seminary. I believe that the final Portfolio will be an valuable tool when we graduate. To be able to look back at the start of the journey and reflect upon the movement of the Holy Spirit while at Seminary will be a great gift.

The Myers-Briggs assignment was VERY interesting to me! Two things I learned:
1) It is OK that I am a passionate person who has multiple interests. I just need to stay focused on the tasks that GOD has assigned me to and not spread myself too thin with many projects.
2) That I need to marry someone who has the same firm value system that I have. In addition, he must be able to adapt and enjoy change. God makes all things new so it would be no surprise to me that I must be with someone who sensitive to the constant movement of the Spirit.

Looking back the journey was interesting and revealing. It was interesting confronting myself and trying to better understand who I am and the way I relate to others. The assessments were beneficial in that regards. The assessments provided pertinent information that was insightful to how I learn and function best. They also provided understanding of my growth areas that I must continue to work on. I think the journey was by far a revealing one as well. Through the “my story and the Christian story” I became aware of how my experiences were all along a part of the divine plan of God. It made me better understand the way I do ministry. It made me stop and think about the people who contributed to my life in one way or another. Just the ability to write out my story was beneficial. I was greatly helped in many ways.

The Foundations course has been totally beneficial to me. The assessments were actually a relief - I act pretty normal considering my wiring. My vocational ministry goals have clarified a great deal. I came into the class thinking I was working from a blank slate - I'm not...God had some specific ideas in mind and I just needed to reflect long enough to catch up to them.

I think the best part of the course has been the development of the ministry profile. This is the first time I've had to write it all out - story, goals, desires, struggles, etc. I'll admit that, since I finished it, I've not only read it through several times, but I also sent it to a ministry that has asked me to apply for a position. I could think of no better pre-interview statement to get them acquainted with my head and heart than that document. I'm about to read it to my wife. If she agrees with it given what she knows about me and my past, I think I've got a real resource from which to work.

Lastly, I appreciate the focus on relationship. I'm not a big relational person outside my immediate family - INTP...what can I say, right? But I want to be. Given what I have seen in the faculty and insight they have shared with me, I know I am in a place that will not let me lose the relationship in the academics.

I look forward to the journey and I praise God that He held me still long enough to get me to COGTS. May your journey be blessed, challenging and life-changing.

I first read through several of the other posts, and you all have said so well much of what I would like to say about learning about myself, gaining clarity, and having appreciation for the work of the instructors. In addition to strongly echoing all of that, I would also just like to add that I think the retreat was an especially nice part of the course. I really enjoyed being able to see the faces of my classmates and my instructors. It really made a difference and I feel much more connected to the class as a result. I look forward to getting to know each of you more throughout the course of our studies.

I must admit I was beginning to wonder how many different times and different ways I could tell “My Story.” However, after having done it I will admit that I can now say I am glad I did. My Story has become my testimony as well. I have seen the traces of the steps in my life that God has orchestrated for me. It has given me more purpose for the ministry I have been involved with and where I really want to go. I appreciate the assessments because it really showed me that God has truly been in control of my ministry because of the doors He has opened. I appreciate the instructors for their gentle and kind, but firm, way they have endeavored to lead us into a much more meaningful relationship with the Lord. It has truly been a good experience.

I had to smile when I read your first statement about "how many different times and different ways I could tell My Story." At first, I started to wonder the same, about both telling my story and stating my goals. However, like you, I am really glad I did now. I gained a lot of clarity through the process, and that shows from reading the first submissions until the final portfolio (at least I hope it does!)
