Paint and transformers

When we lifted Aquarelle out of the water after 4 years to clean and
paint the bottom, large areas of paint came off. The hull had been sand
blasted (well grit actually) and a barrier coat applied. This was
followed about 3 weeks later by the first primer coat. It is this
interface that has come apart. One suggestion is that it may be due to
having shore power connected in our case about 70% of the time. We do
not have a transformer, but do have Zinc saver diodes in earth
connection. Has anybody had a similar problem.
About a year ago there was mention of somebody who supplied isolation
transformers, preferably in France. If you know who please let me know.

By 'zinc saver diodes' do you mean a Galvanic Isolator on the earth line?

I would suspect poor surface preparation before I clutched at electrical
straws. what was the 'barrier coat'?

We had a bad problem with a tar paint coming off after only a few months and
getting worse over a longer period of time.

We shall use the Farrow low pressure ( 4 bar )system to remove old paint to
bare metal and use 2 part epoxy paint.

We do have an isolation transformer - Mastervolt, bought from Paul Ladyman
( who has a house in France nr Dijon ) tel no +44 (0) 1622872236 and mobile:
+44 (0) 7778426400 who is a power specialist ( generators, electrical etc).

He is very good and we have found very helpful.
