It seems to have to do with Audio or my quad CPU?...Is it possible to turn audio feature off? I would use PWGL mostly for computer assisted composition and not for generating sounds.

Dear users,

As some of you already know the PWGL project is mainly supported
financially by the Academy of Finland (the main governmental funding
body for scientific research in Finland). Thus our salaries and
expenses are covered with grants.

Now I am in the process of applying a new grant. For this I would like
to know how and for what purposes our software is used. Especially I
am interested if PWGL is used pedagogically in institutions. If you
know such cases or plans please send me directly (laurson@...) a
short description of this activity and the name and the address of the
institution. I would need this information within the next the week or
so.

yes, at least my documentation was close to NIL...

First of all, make sure that you are using the latest version (rc-11).

I have attached the code now as a zip file. Maybe something happened
during transfer... anyway I changed some things to avoid syntax
changes in the future. Put these files to PWGL-User/ENP/autoloads/

DOC:

If you want to add a new bpf proto you:

(1) create it with the "def-score-bpf-prototype" macro as in the
example (see bpf-protos.lisp). With "name" you give the NAME of you
prototype. Category is ignored at the moment... fn is anything that in
the end creates and returns an instance of "C-break-point-function". x/
y points should be fitted inside the ranges, i.e., start-time, end-
time, min-val, and max-val. The example doesn't do this ;-)

GUI USAGE:

In the score editor:

(1) add a score-bpf as before

(2) select score-bpf(s) and type l (= lower case L)

(3) choose from the list

I am wonder if there exist a way to add user-defined templates to the library of BPF-score (something equivalent to the predefined: bpf Library/basics/Ramp-up available in the menu-option of the BPF-score). When having complex BPF-scores associated to a note or a group o notes it is very hard to edit the bpf coordinates by hand (things could be easier through algorithmic generation). The scenario is worst if one try to clone a given BPF associated to another note(s). It will be great having the possibility of storing user-defined BPF templates, as it happens with the other visual-tools such a as Note-head Designer and Expression-Designer and quote them in different locations of the ENP-score window.

Does anyone has tried and/or solved a similar task? Please let me know...

Hi Josué,

Just a quick answer to your question.
In file mode you should use an oscillator trigger in order to get
sound (see the attached patch).

For more advanced cases you could consider using scores to generate
triggering information.

We should add more tutorials for this topic.

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with synth-box in file mode, my patch has some triggers so when I press "v" and then the triggers it never happens to get any sound file output, actually it has some audio file output but with no sound in.

Is it me who doesnt know how to use the synth box? or it doesnt work in a patch with triggers? (It can be the second since the file is created as soon as I press v)

Actually, a recursive abstraction mıght currently be ımpossıble to do.

I want to create a recursive abstraction but I'm having problems with the
instances of the abstraction: saving one abstraction before it calls
itself makes it definitive. This means that the second abstraction (in the
first abstraction) will not load the new saved abstraction. (I hope the
explanation it's not too complicated...).

Luis,

There are two primary ways:

(1) "Lisp" box. It contains an editor just like the text box. In
contrast to the text box - that is passive - the Lisp box evaluates
its contents every time you open the patch. The functions and
variables defined in a Lisp box are, however, per patch only (although
you can use the functions - deliberately or inadvertently - in other
patches but this will break the loading of these patches).

(2) The User-library. If you have a collection of Lisp functions and
data you want to reuse you should concider making a personal user-
library. You can find the documentation in the PWGL Tutorial. You can
then use SHIFT-U ("Autoload libraries...") to set your library to be
loaded automatically each time you start PWGL.

pwgl-users: Announcement - PWGL rc 11 available

We have a new version (rc 11) available for download. The distribution
scheme has changed since rc 10 so that each platform is now
distributed as a separate zip archive. Note, that currently there is
no 'universal' version for MacIntosh anymore. Instead, the Intel and
PPC platforms have their own version.

variables like that is perhaps not the best way unless you are
completely sure what you are doing. You CAN use eval-box to access the
variable but remember to evaluate the 'text-box' and use the right
package in the 'eval-box' (e.g., cl-user::var).

If you need in a patch something that behaves like a variable take a
look at PWGL-value box. There are some tutorials covering that in, for
example, Tutorial/Control/PWGL-value1.

Yes, I have understood the necessary syntax. Well, indeed in this moment I am searching to understand how to work with rythm in PWGL; I find that the tutorials of PWGL are not really clear about the syntax needed to work correctly with evrey different object included and the documentation is not enough, of course, so KSQuant is an excellent help.

Hi!

This is my first post here.
I posted it to the mailing list address first, but didn't receive it, so I hope I'm not double posting...

I managed to find PWGL after testing some alternatives to notatate polymetric music, music with multiple parallel tempi etc.

This program looks promising indeed.
I liked also the example samples of the physically modeled guitar.

After browsing through the tutorials, I have one question right away:

How do you playback the score?
Either using a midi output or internal synthesis (physically modeled guitar patch for an example)?

Many thanks for your answer.

Of course I use the “panning“ feature and indeed it is fantastic. However I think somtimes that it would be useful to can scroll the window, above all because in some cases I would like to see the objects at 100% in a more extended algorithm. Other problem is when you copy an object from a zoomed patch -reduced-: the new position of this object in the new work space -in a not zoomed patch- sometimes is really difficult to find.

I think that it would be great to have both possibilities: scroll and zoom, do you think that it would be possible?

Hallo,

I am very new with PWGL.
Three questions please.
Is it posible with PWGL to read chord or partial analysis made with the Audio Sculpt?
If not is there any other software that the PWGL accepts as a source of the above analysis?
Is there any way the PWGL after reading the chord sequence analysis or partial analysis from Audio Sculpt to generate with them a score like for example Open music does with the om->finale?
I ask the above because I use them in my work and I must say that I like much-much more PWGL than OM.
