I am wondering if anyone can comment on whether PBS stations have in the past participated in bids on private sector projects. Recently our company responded to a request for proposal (RFP) to find that an affiliate PBS station competed and ultimately won the contract.
ISTM, that PBS stations would have an unfair competitive advantage in the marketplace not to mention a conflict of interest and a sharp departure from its mission in undertaking for profit projects. The project was for video production and dissemination- eg commercials.
I am a supporter of public television but think selling video production services is at the very least ethically questionable.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
