Hi Dan,

My comment wasn't a poo pooing of the USA,  just the first paragraph rar rar America etc makes it sound like the rest of the world is 2nd rate. Just a little exclusionary.

I think I see where your trying to go, I guess its the way that its worded. I think everyone would agree that Kodachrome represents a time when America was looked up too through-out the world, and was THE technology and manufacturing power house, the USA was at its peak in terms of world influence. Infact, you could probably write an interesting paper on the decline of chemical based technology and its impact on the USA as a technology leader.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hey that's OK.

I was actually born in England, but I could never live there again. I have been in the U.S. since age 3.

But again, this truly is a global passion and fanfare, it needs to be looked at that way now. There is a beautiful world out there, it would be great to get a lot of people from all over the globe to shoot this film as best they can and make this something special.

The site is undergoing nearly hourly changes as I learn adobe go live on the fly since my web guys are all out of reach....

Our World: One last look on Kodachrome, how about it folks?

Hi Dan,

Now you have my keen interest! I wonder what Sydney, Australia looks like on Kodachrome nowadays?

Or other parts of Australia?

Perhaps we could think about distributing bricks of K64 to interested parties around the world, as long as they send it all back. (Kinda obvious, Dwaynes do the processing!)

Heck, I might even aim to do a bit of travelling at the time to take full advantage of such an opportunity.

Be careful, you may have given birth to a dragon with this idea!

It would certainly give some parties in Kodak a bit of a start, eh?

Last year we had the 75th anniversary of the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and I asked this group just a little too late for some K64. A lot of people contacted me offline to try to help me out. Wish I had thought to ask a bit earlier.

I am shooting more digital now (duh!), but whenever I shoot film for a portrait, it has a certain glow that digital just does not have. And that carries forward to the scanned image as well, so two digital computer files have a distinctly different look.

We find every month that more photographers are going back to film for portraiture. Very interesting.

Otto Mellar

I'd drop the emphasis on "*last*" look -- it's defeatist, and as prominent as
the site is, combined with "beancounterthink" (not to mention
"perezalldigitalkodakthink"), can *easily* be construed as a tacit go-sign
from "the customers."  ("Look!  They're already resigned to the loss!
We're good to go!  Heck, they're already rolling out the Virtual Funeral
for the damn stuff!  We'd better kill that sucker ASAP before they change
their minds!")

Think about it.  This ain't even "Psychology 101" -- it's more like
"Introduction to orientation for 'Should I Consider Auditing a Mental
Health/Counseling Minor?' Three Week Program."

Since you're "rearchitecting" the site on an ongoing basis (to coin a
phrase) I would URGE you to change the basic premise -- from a "Worshipful
Funeral Dirge" to a "Plea for Clemency."

It ought to be fairly simple to use the same (photographic) material as
*proof* that the product SHOULD be kept alive (and beyond that, (*gasp*)
EXPANDED!  Let's see that Kodachrome 100 with the T-grain emulsion put into
production!  Or, let's see an annual run of K25, using one of their small
coating machines (the ones they use for test runs while working up a new
emulsion).

  Suggestion: Watch "Cabaret!" (It's a documentary, not a musical;
a portrait of the end-game of a decadent culture.)

I do tend to agree with Ron on this point.

While saying "last look" hurries people along to keep using it, it is acquiescent.

As we are looking at 2010 for completion of your project, you may consider something like:

"Kodachrome: 75 years of glory"

or:

"Kodachrome: still glorious after 75 years"

or even:

"Kodachrome: Still Kodak's greatest glory after 75 years"

I leave it to Dan and others to nominate a natty way of being up beat in one statement.

Bingo!

This is pretty much my real intent for the project, making sure that we can have the chance to visually celebrate Kodachrome's 75th anniversary and the world-wide campaign to do that.

I now know exactly the adjustments to make to the site.

This will now be much easier to focus and could end up being a blast guys!

Cheers,

Dan

Hi everyone,

The site now better reflects the more global approach to this campaign and project. Gone are "Our America" or "One last look"

The forums will be up soon. I am not sure what is involved with the implementation of sub-categories, but I am going to soon find out...

Cheers,

Dan

Outdated Kodachrome 64 available

For your possible interest.

I went to Hunt's in Melrose today to pickup some Plus-X and noticed that
they had 48 rolls of Kodachrome 64 in their clearance area.  It's a year
outdated, but knowing how it was kept in cold storage in their basement,
I'm pretty sure that it's okay.

There are now 45 rolls left.  I would have bought more but I fancy
faster film.
