My comment wasn't a poo pooing of the USA, just the first paragraph rar rar America etc makes it sound like the rest of the world is 2nd rate. Just a little exclusionary.
I think I see where your trying to go, I guess its the way that its worded. I think everyone would agree that Kodachrome represents a time when America was looked up too through-out the world, and was THE technology and manufacturing power house, the USA was at its peak in terms of world influence. Infact, you could probably write an interesting paper on the decline of chemical based technology and its impact on the USA as a technology leader.
