Subprocess call engine error

Hello,

We are using route-web (densha), the version from May 30th, but we are
having a problem with a rather 'trivial' piece of code. It is just a
"subprocess call", as you can see below:

the email). We have tried in several machines, and using different
"participants", but we are unable to make it work. What is happening?
As a hint, I can say that this same piece of code runs perfectly in
OpenWFE 1.7.2 (in Java)

Actually, you could as well customize the Participant itself.

IIRC, the participant class as a cancel() method, you could override
it to make sure that the compensating call is made.

Customizing my web service to execute another process which can
compensate previous work via RMI or REST.

All I need to do is get all of the parameters from the main process.

I just think about which method is better!
Call a custom function? or call custom web service?
Maybe the first choice need to cost more effort!

Yes, I can check via a field.
But If the web service participant failed (ex: web service connection
problem or cannot find the participant in participantMap)
The flow will crash. And I can't see any in store.
So I can't do anything.

Your suggestion can do if the web service return error message.
Any according the error message to decide which sub process to
execute.

you could basically check for the existence of a field just after your
webservice participant and if the field has no value or a value that
indicates an error, you could trigger the subprocess.

I've tried do/undo expressions.
But it seems can't help me.

There is one scenario:

If I define web services to insert DB.
One to insert DB one (i.e. WS-DBone), another to insert DB two (i.e.
WS-DBtwo), and the other to insert DB three (i.e. WS-DBthree).

If I invoke WS-DBone, WS-DBtwo success, but failed when I invoke WS-
DBthree.
Right now, there's already insert DB one and DB two.
So I need to compensate previous work by other web services (ex: WS-
deleteOne, WS-deleteTwo)

May be you can provide any idea for me, I'll very appreciate.

By the way, I have another idea to solve this problem.
Maybe I can implement a class which can execute subprocess.
Can you give any hint for me?

Hello,

you can't use else-ref with subprocesses. You might want to consider
using a combination of do/undo expressions.

There is 'else-ref' attribute for the participant expression can
handle some error from 'ref'.

I want to compensate previous work after the error occurs.
But it seems I can not do subprocess in 'else-ref'.

So, is anyone know that how can I execute subprocess in 'else-ref'

Or maybe someone can suggest me how to compensate previous work in any
other ways.

I don't know how you want to make your services available (SOAP vs
REST), but if you don't mind using Ruby, OpenWFEru might be a good
candidate for orchestrating your services.

Is there any example about use the db oriented worklist with the
embedded engine?
I've check OpenWFE in 1.6.2. I've seen the file mysql_swis.sql in
openwfe-1.6.2.zip\openwfe-1.6.2\sql\swis\.
I guess maybe I just can store workitems via swis(SqlWorkItemStore) in
version 1.6.2, but cannot in 1.7.3.

Hi,

IIRC, it's possible to use the db oriented worklist with the embedded engine.

The embedded engine should rather be called the embeddable engine. It
depends on your architectural needs.

There's the communication cost if you use the remote engine. With the
embeddable engine you also have participants (java code) directly at
hand.

Please note that the development of OpenWFE has switched from Java to
Ruby : http://openwferu.rubyforge.org
It's also running decently on top of JRuby, and it's nicer than
OpenWFE. Though I have never tested the DB storage in OpenWFEru over
JRuby.

How to save worklist in database with embedded engine?

Hi,

I'm trying the ''A embedding OpenWFE'' in chapter 11 and using
OpenWFE1.7.3pre0 on Windows XP.
The expression store(i.e. engine run date) can be saved in database
via DbPersistedEngine.
I've flowed the instruction in chapter 4 to create the database named
xlob with MySQL.

My problem is: in remote engine, it will save engine run data
(expression store) in openwfe-x.x.x\work\engine\pool and save worklist
data (workitem store) in openwfe-x.x.x\work\worklist\store.
But in embedding engine, I've just seen it save engine run data but
without worklist data.

Is there any possible that I can save worklist data in database, or I
just can use the InMemoryWorkList?

There's another question, what's the benefit of using embedded engine?
I'm confused on it since I compare it with remote engine.

It works after I changed from engine.launch(li, true); to

I've just run openwfe-embed/test.sh wich points to
openwfe-embed/src/main/java/openwfe/org/embed/tst/TestWorklist.java
which is very similar to the test in chapter 11 and it works fine
(Trunk 1.7.3-SNAPSHOT).

What version are you using ? On which platform ?

Please note that the development of OpenWFE has switched from Java to
Ruby. The focus is now at http://openwferu.rubyforge.org

Patterns-based evaluation of OpenWFE

Hi,

In this paper we report the results of an evaluation of OpenWFE (jBPM, and
Enhydra Shark). The workflow patterns
(control-flow, data, and resource perspectives) were used as evaluation
framework.
