I don't want to use the openmap.properties since I need to load toolpanel in my own panel within my application. I've seen several examples that explain how OMToolSet (zoom, pan and scale) is load with this code:

OMToolSet omts = new OMToolSet();
ToolPanel toolPanel = new ToolPanel();
omts.findAndInit(mapBean);//If I get off this line, zoom and pan icons appears on my panel //but there is not funcionality
toolPanel.add((Tool) omts);
JPanel myOwnPanel = new JPanel();
myOwnPanel.add(toolPanel);

I've tried this (adding the OMToolSet in my own panel) and it works properly but I cannot do that with the rest of components doing this code (similar to code above):

LayersPanel lp =
new LayersPanel();
MouseModePanel mp = new MouseModePanel();
lp.findAndInit(mapBean);
mp.findAndInit(mapBean);
toolPanel.add((Tool) lp);
toolPanel.add((Tool) mp);

In that case, layersPanel appears on my own panel but there is not funcionality (Despite of lp.findAndInit(mapBean) method) and MouseModePanel icon selector does not even appears...

About DrawingTool, I dont know how add drawing icons by means of code (without openmap.properties) (I would only be interested in Poly Icon)

Anyone can help me please?
Thanks in advance

Subject: [OpenMap Users] How do I handle mouse events with multiple

Hi,

   I have a map with icons on multiple layers and the icons respond to a
mouse click event. Right now, only the top layer responds to mouse
events.
How do I get the bottom layers to respond to mouse events too?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

I've updated the CVS repository on the website with a fix for
DbfHandler to check that the attribute isn't null:

     public OMGraphic evaluate(OMGraphic omg, OMGraphicList labelList,
                               Projection proj) {
         Object obj =
omg.getAttribute(ShapeConstants.SHAPE_INDEX_ATTRIBUTE);

         if (obj instanceof Integer) {
             Integer index = (Integer) obj;
             // Off by one, the index in the shp file starts at 1,
             // the dbf starts at 0
             return evaluate(index.intValue() - 1, omg, labelList,
proj);
         }

         return omg;
     }

There are further checks in that SpatialIndex method as well that
might help you. But to answer your question, you can comment out that
code if you want all of the OMGraphics in the shape file to show up.
The DbfHandler just filters out OMGraphics that don't pass attribute
value rules (or sets tooltips, colors, etc.).

Hope this helps,

Don
>>> Hey everyone,
>>>
>>> I have recently upgraded to the new version of openmap, version
>>> 4.6.3
>>> to 4.6.4. In my application I have several shapefiles that I have
>>> been using with no problems at all. After I upgraded to the new
>>> version I am now getting an error from the openmap code
>>> "layername|LayerWorker.construct(): null". I am getting this error
>>> with two of my shapefiles but a third that is very similar is just
>>> fine. I googled the problem and found an old post on the openmap
>>> forums to modify come code in the ESRIPolygonRecord.java file, but
>>> the
>>> openmap code already has this modification.
>>>
>>> I am assuming that this problem has to do with the new version since
>>> the application worked just fine before had and I was wondering if
>>> anyone else has ran into this problem using the new version of
>>> openmap? If you have any tips, suggestions, hints or anything it
>>> would be awsome to hear about them.
>>>
>>> Thanks,
>> I just wanted to add to my previous post. I debugged the problem a
>> bit more by adding some print statements to the openmap code to try
>> to
>> figure out what was causing the problem. Below is a stack trace from
>> the the construct() method in the LayerWorker class that is defined
>> Is this caused by a bad dbf file? Have there been any changes to
>> this
>
> Just wanted to post one more time because I think I know what the
> problem is
> now and I am trying to figure out a good solution. The problem that
> I can
> see is that the openmap code is throwing an exception in the
> getOMGraphics
> method in the SpatialIndex.java file. Inside this method there is a
> section
> of code that says:
>
>                    if (dbf != null) {
>                        omg = dbf.evaluate(omg, labels, mapProj);
>                    }
>
> If i comment this line out my program works like it used to without a
> problem. I am getting a null pointer out of this line of code. I
> specify
> these layers in the openmap properties file and only set the keys
> layerName.shapeFile and layerName.spatialIndex.  What I don't
> understand is
> how the dbf object is getting set to a non null value. I would
> imagin that
> a quick solution would be to set a dbf file in the properties file
> but I am
> not certain whether there is a key for this. Is there a
> "layerName.dbfFile"
> key?
>
> Or can I leave these three lines commented out and just compile
> openmap like
> this? will there be any adverse effects by doing this?
>
> Thanks,
>
> Jeff
> Hey everyone,
>
> I have recently upgraded to the new version of openmap, version 4.6.3
> to 4.6.4. In my application I have several shapefiles that I have
> been using with no problems at all. After I upgraded to the new
> version I am now getting an error from the openmap code
> "layername|LayerWorker.construct(): null". I am getting this error
> with two of my shapefiles but a third that is very similar is just
> fine. I googled the problem and found an old post on the openmap
> forums to modify come code in the ESRIPolygonRecord.java file, but the
> openmap code already has this modification.
>
> I am assuming that this problem has to do with the new version since
> the application worked just fine before had and I was wondering if
> anyone else has ran into this problem using the new version of
> openmap? If you have any tips, suggestions, hints or anything it
> would be awsome to hear about them.
>
> Thanks,
>
> Jeff
>

I just wanted to add to my previous post. I debugged the problem a
bit more by adding some print statements to the openmap code to try to
figure out what was causing the problem. Below is a stack trace from
the the construct() method in the LayerWorker class that is defined in
OMGraphicHandlerLayer.

java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.bbn.openmap.dataAccess.shape.DbfHandler.evaluate(DbfHandler.java:249)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.shape.SpatialIndex.getOMGraphics(SpatialIndex.java:519)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.shape.ShapeLayer.prepare(ShapeLayer.java:522)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.policy.StandardRenderPolicy.prepare(StandardRenderPolicy.java:99)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.OMGraphicHandlerLayer$LayerWorker.construct(OMGraphicHandlerLayer.java:695)
        at com.bbn.openmap.util.SwingWorker$2.run(SwingWorker.java:127)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

In the DbfHandler.evaluate method it seems that this line of code is breaking:

Integer index = (Integer)
omg.getAttribute(ShapeConstants.SHAPE_INDEX_ATTRIBUTE);

Is this caused by a bad dbf file? Have there been any changes to this
code from the last version?

Try calling generate on your OMGraphicList with your current projection
as the parameter:
                omgl.generate(mMapBean.getProjection());

You may also need to issue a repaint() call in your layer.
> been using with no problems at all. After I upgraded to the new
> version I am now getting an error from the openmap code
> with two of my shapefiles but a third that is very similar is just
> fine. I googled the problem and found an old post on the openmap
> openmap code already has this modification.
>
> I am assuming that this problem has to do with the new version since
> the application worked just fine before had and I was wondering if
> anyone else has ran into this problem using the new version of
> openmap? If you have any tips, suggestions, hints or anything it
> would be awsome to hear about them.
>

I just wanted to add to my previous post. I debugged the problem a
bit more by adding some print statements to the openmap code to try to
figure out what was causing the problem. Below is a stack trace from
the the construct() method in the LayerWorker class that is defined in
OMGraphicHandlerLayer.

java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.bbn.openmap.dataAccess.shape.DbfHandler.evaluate(DbfHandler.java:249)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.shape.SpatialIndex.getOMGraphics(SpatialIndex.java:519)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.shape.ShapeLayer.prepare(ShapeLayer.java:522)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.policy.StandardRenderPolicy.prepare(StandardRenderPolicy.java:99)
        at com.bbn.openmap.layer.OMGraphicHandlerLayer$LayerWorker.construct(OMGraphicHandlerLayer.java:695)
        at com.bbn.openmap.util.SwingWorker$2.run(SwingWorker.java:127)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

In the DbfHandler.evaluate method it seems that this line of code is breaking:

Integer index = (Integer)
omg.getAttribute(ShapeConstants.SHAPE_INDEX_ATTRIBUTE);

Is this caused by a bad dbf file? Have there been any changes to this
code from the last version?
Subject: RE: [OpenMap Users] Should I use OpenMapFrame instead of

The benefit of using OpenMapFrame is that Open Map has a quite a nice
architecture that is all controlled from a properties file. Just by
changing the properties file, I can control which components are
included in the UI and where they are placed. To change my application,
I don't need recompile it. I could also create several very different
applications just by creating different properties files for each
application, but not needing a different code base. For many
applications, this may be more than you need, but if you need it can be
very nice. Obviously, Netbeans does not have support for editing the
properties file in the GUI Builder. That would be a very nice plugin
though if someone wanted to create one. For our application, Openmap is
only one component, and we need the ability to swap out different map
libraries relatively easy, so we are not using the OpenMapFrame. It all
depends on what your requirements are.

You have a couple of choices here.

One, you can just design a JPanel in the GUI Builder and then add it to
your OpenMapFrame.

Alternatively, since OpenMapFrame extends JFrame, you can just tell
NetBeans to create a JFrame and then change which class it extends (in
the class declaration).

Good luck!

Hello.

I am using OpenMap WMS Server, but not OpenMap WMS Plugin.
>
> We’re looking into using a WMS-compliant server like Geoserver or
> MapServer in conjunction with OpenMap. It appears from the code and
> documentation that the current OpenMap plug-in only supports simple
> image requests. I was wondering if you all would be nice enough to
> provide some feedback on the following questions:
>
> 1.) What kind of successes and problems have you had with the
> current OpenMap WMS Plugin?

My main problem with it is the lack of projection handling. The WMS
Layer/PlugIn should be able to know about the SRS of the current view
and use the GetCapabilities-response to find the best matching SRS.

> 2.) Which WMS server have you had most the success with and why?

I am using OpenMap WMS Server as
1) We already used OpenMap for other non-WMS things
2) It is java. That is why we are not using MapServer
3) GeoServer is GPL and that would not work for us
4) deegree is LGPL, but we ended up with OpenMap for various reasons

The OpenMap WMS is working very nicely. We have done a lot of work on
supporting different coordinate systems/projections and also on the
performance side. Like using fork-join for maximum performance on
multi-core servers.

> 3.) Would you provide examples of other data types that you were
> able to retrieve and display in OpenMap like (DTED, VPF, Shape,
> Geotiff, NITF, CADRG, CIB, etc.)? Did you need to create your own
> support?

We use shape files and our own layers.

Regards,
   - Tore.

what i mean is is that i have this code:

i am currently using the ESRIRecord and Shapefile class to go through the "records" of each shapefile which is actually each individual shape that is represented in the shapefile. each record has a bounding box and i am able to get this information but havent found a way to actually retrieve the points inside each record.

i am using these classes:

http://openmap.bbn.com/doc/api/com/bbn/openmap/layer/shape/ShapeFile.html
http://openmap.bbn.com/doc/api/com/bbn/openmap/layer/shape/ESRIRecord.html
http://openmap.bbn.com/doc/api/com/bbn/openmap/layer/shape/ESRIBoundingBox.html

i currently have something like:

try
     {
         shapeRecord = shapefile.getNextRecord();   //returns an ESRIRecord
     }
     catch(Exception e)
     {
         throw new Exception("problem getting the next record");
     }

this points me to the first record in the shapefile...i..e Shape 0.

  i can now say:

        shapeBox = shapeRecord.getBoundingBox(); //returns a bounding box for this particular record.

now you can do:

       System.out.println("first point: " + shapeBox.min + " " + shapeBox.max);

  that yields me the bounding box for that particular record which would be -89.523, 30.616 and -89.495, 30.648 as shown below.

  Shape:0 (Polygon)  nVertices=122, nParts=1
  Bounds:(     -89.523,      30.616, 0, 0)
      to (     -89.495,      30.648, 0, 0)
     (     -89.512,      30.648, 0, 0) Ring
     (     -89.500,      30.648, 0, 0)
     (     -89.495,      30.648, 0, 0)
      etc etc etc

   now i want to be able to get all the points for the particular record but there isnt anything in the ESRIRecord class that gives me that ability and nothing in the ShapeFile class that allows me to call a function to actually return to me an array of points in the record or a buffer of some sort. ShapeFile does have a recBuf that returns data from a record but it is protected so i do not have access to it.

   i was hoping that there would be something like the DBFTableModel where i could just get an array of points in the record and then read all the points in the record..something like record.getLatLon(int index) that would return to me an ESRIPoint.

anyone have any clues or suggestions? thanks in advance!
> hi,
> GIS has three types of shapfile:point,line,polygon.Points
> and lines
> constitute polygon. You can have point layer,line layer and
> polygon layer in
> GIS.

You should use the EsriGraphicList for reading the shp file, and the
DbfTableModel for reading the dbf file. The order of the contents in
each are the same, and the objects correspond to each other. Once you
have the EsriGraphicList, you can query the OMGraphics on that list
for the vertices.

You can check out the com.bbn.openmap.plugin.esri.EsriPlugIn for a

Hope this helps,

Hi Michael,

The projection object in the EsriShapeExport doesn't do what you think
it does. It is used by the export process to covert certain
OMGraphics (circles, rectangles) into polygons, which are supported by
the Shape file format.

WGS-84 isn't really a projection, it's datum. Your client wants the
coordinates in decimal degree lat/lon values that represent
coordinates in the WGS-84 datum. What coordinate system and datum are
they in now? The .proj file should have that information.

Hope this helps,

- Don
