OpenAir Format in XCSoarWhat chance is there of enabling the ability of XCSoar to recognise the "Radio" (VHF Frequency) and "CTA" (Control Area) statements in the now outdated 1999 version 1.0 of the OpenAir airspace format.
As it stands, there is no difference between a "CTR" Control Zone (SFC-?) and a Control Area (CTA) with upper (AH) and lower levels (AL) above the ground level (SFC). Alternatively, can you specify which later version of the OpenAir airspace format is recognised by XCSoar? Re: OpenAir Format in XCSoarMust admit, I wasn't aware of a newer standard. Is there one, if so where can I find it?

Re: OpenAir Format in XCSoarHere's the Winpilot User Guide
http://www.winpilot.com/UsersGuide/UserAirspace.asp I've just tried inserting an AT line, but the label doesn't show up on the map in XCSoar. Is this is what is being asked for? Keith

Re: OpenAir Format in XCSoarIdeally an updated Openair airspace standard but failing that, an ability in XCSoar recognise the difference between a CTR (Control Zone) and a CTA (Control Area) would be desirable.

Re: OpenAir Format in XCSoarIt should be feasible to add a number of things to xcsoar such as CTA / CTR / RADIO etc etc etc. However I have a worry around the modifying of a standard without agreement with the other users of that standard.

Re: OpenAir Format in XCSoarThe AT line only denotes the position (Lat, Long) in the map where the TITLE line is to show in order to avoid overwriting adjacent blocks of airspace.

I am told that the chances of updating the OpenAir standard by Jerry Plaszowiecki, the original author at Winpilot are nil and I don't know why, so a new standard is the only option down that path.
It is now up to the individual software developers to go it alone until someone like FAI sets the new standard in XML which everyone can then adopt. It is clear that the present formats are inadequate and with the complexity of new airspace restrictions post 9/11 and just about every cross country glider has some sort of moving map display upon which they depend to keep them out of controlled airspace.
I know that for developers this is a relatively easy change, but it also takes some commitment to keep on updating the standard. I have come to XCSoar because of the Altair display which I consider has superior features, but it is only as good as the software installed.
