(This workshop will take place in one day of July 8 to 11.)

Workshop's Aim:

In services computing, it is critical to better identify,
specify, implement and manage non-functional properties
separately from functional properties. Well-managed
separation/synthesis of functional and non-functional
properties can significantly improve reusability,
maintainability, composability and performance of service-
oriented applications. This workshop aims providing an
opportunity for both academic researchers and industry
practitioners to present, discuss and access the state of
the art and practice of engineering non-functional properties
in services computing.

Topics of interest are listed below; however, submissions
on all non-functional aspects in services computing are welcome.

* Individual non-functional properties/requirements
(e.g., QoS, security, fault tolerance, messaging,
reliability, availability, service discovery, service
orchestration/composition, data integration and data retention)
in various (enterprise to embedded) service-oriented applications.
* Methodologies to map non-functional requirements and properties
* Non-functional properties/requirements in requirements
engineering
* Non-functional properties/requirements and business process/rule

* Architecture description languages, service description
languages, modeling languages and domain-specific languages
for non-functional properties/requirements
* Object-oriented and aspect-oriented techniques for non-
functional properties/requirements
* Model-driven engineering for non-functional properties/
requirements
* Software development process and non-functional properties/
requirements
* QoS monitoring/provisioning and service level agreements
for non-functional properties/requirements
* Regulatory compliance and non-functional properties/
requirements
* Ontology frameworks for non-functional properties/requirements
* Middleware support for non-functional properties/requirements
* Tool support to separate/synthesize functional and non-
functional properties
* Theoretical foundations/tools for non-functional properties/
requirements
* Industrial experience and standardization on non-functional
properties/requirements

Paper Submissions and Presentations:

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research
papers that are not longer than 8 pages with 10pt or 11pt font.
Please follow the IEEE Computer Society Press Proceedings Author
Guidelines to prepare your papers. Email your abstract and paper
to both program chairs with the subject line of "IEEE MNPSC."
At least one author of each accepted paper is required to
attend the workshop and present the paper.

Best Papers and Book Chapter Promotion:

This workshop will select best papers. With substantial extensions,
they will be promoted to chapters of a book in the "Advanced Web
Services Research and Practices" book series (IGI Publishing).

Brief description

The IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 Computer and Communications Network Security Symposium (CCNS) will be held in New Orleans, USA, November 2008.
With the advent of pervasive computer applications and due to the proliferation of heterogeneous wired and wireless computer networks, computer and network security has become paramount. The Computer and Communications Network Security Symposium will address all aspects of the modeling, design, implementation, deployment, and management of computer/network security algorithms, protocols, architectures, and systems. Smart space applications, present significant management

challenges for successful delivery of highly adaptive services

across heterogeneous networks, mobile networks, ad-hoc networks,

middleware, applications and devices. Such challenges include: managing

user centric services and context services, extreme distribution and

scalability, extensive system & network & semantic heterogeneity,

ad hoc formation and disassociation of systems and services, intelligent

support for user centric applications.

Since 2003, the MUCS workshop (both independently and aligned with major

conferences) has provided a very successful forum for researchers and

practitioners to explore the theoretic, technological and organizational

challenges, and to present advances in management techniques and

technologies, for pervasive computing and smart space applications.

The workshop provides a single-track scientific programme containing a

blend of keynote presentations from leaders in research in this area,

Multiserver Admin Console in TAS7

I used to develop applications to Enhydra 3.x and manage it using Multiserver Administration Console. Now these applications are running in TAS (Together Application Server) and I would like to know if there’s a similar application on TAS7 or Enhydra 6.x.

How can you stop and start a webapp on TAS7? Is it necessary to shutdown the TomCat to stop only one application or is it possible to stop and start each webapp independently? Besides, how can you known the number of connections to database that each webapp have allocated?

I'm glad to announce that the ObjectWeb project CLIF (clif.objectweb.org) has just won a Lutèce d'Or award, in the name of France Telecom, as the best open source project made by a large company.

As some of you already know, CLIF is a generic load testing platform based on the Fractal component model (fractal.objectweb.org) and its reference Java implementation Julia. The research group for Networks and Distributed Systems at the
University of Oslo, Department of informatics is seeking candidates
for 1 research associate at M.Sc. level. The position will be
assigned to the MUSIC project (Self-Adapting Applications for Mobile
Users in Ubiquitous Computing Environments). Applicants should have a
masters degree and preferably a background in networks and
distributed systems. Good candidates with other relevant background

Dear ObjectWeb Member, Dear OW2 Member,

You have probably noticed that the mailing list system has not been
functioning properly or has been down for the last 3-4 days. This has
confused many committers and for one Member at least has delayed the
launch of a new product release. On behalf of the Management Office I
sincerely apologize for this situation.

We owe you an explanation, before telling you what we have done to fix
the problem.

As you know our webmaster, Xavier Moghrabi, left Inria and OW2, two weeks
ago. In January, we had arranged with a Strategic Member to provide a new
webmaster to replace Xavier. However, this new Webmaster was not able to
join on time which, as you can imagine, caused much stress and is making
the transition extremely precarious. Of course, the system decided to
crash while we were all attending the Quarterly Meeting and General
Assembly in Brussels!

The problem has now been solved and we have a solution for the long term.
Thanks to the efforts and dedication of Bull and Jacques Cayuela, a team
has now been organized to administrate the legacy environment on the
ObjectWeb machines. For the long term, two Strategic Members, Engineering
and Bull, have committed to provide system administration for the new OW2
environment, and will work together to ensure service continuity.

Scope & Topics:

Component-based software emerged as a promising paradigm to deal
with the ever increasing need for mastering systems' complexity, for
enabling evolution and reuse, and for driving software engineering
into sound production and engineering standards. Soon, however, it
became a popular technology long before well-understood and widely
adopted formal foundations have emerged. Issues like mathematical
models for components, their interaction and composition, or
rigorous approaches to verification, deployment, testing and
certification remain open research questions and challenging
opportunities for formal methods. Moreover, new challenges are
raised by applications of this paradigm to safety-critical, mobile,
or reconfigurable systems.

The objective of FACS'07 is to bring together researchers in the
areas of component software and formal methods to promote a deep
understanding of this paradigm and its applications. The workshop
will also be interested in defining the common aspects of components
and component- based development. It is expected that formal paper
presentations will be followed by lively debate in a stimulating
atmosphere. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

- formal models for software components and component interaction
- design and verification methods for component software
- component composition and deployment: models, calculi, languages
- component testing
- specification of extra-functional properties in component software
- certification of components and software architectures
- component software vs. object orientation
- components for real-time, safety-critical, secure and/or embedded
systems
- standard models for software components (e.g. Fractal, GCM, etc.)
- experience reports and case studies in component software
- partial behavior models for software components
- update and reconfiguration of component architectures
- component systems evolution
- formal methods and modeling languages
- trust models for components

FACS'07 is the fourth in a series of workshops, founded by the
International Institute for Software Technology of the United
Nations University (UNU-IIST). The first FACS workshop was held in
Pisa, Italy, in September 2003, co-located with FM'03. Next, FACS'05
was organized as a standalone event in October 2004 at
UNU-IIST. Then FACS'06 was hosted in Prague by Charles
University. The workshop participants have considered this as a very
successful meeting with collaborative atmosphere and friendly
discussion. Considering the persisting interest of the participants
in the topics, FACS'07 was scheduled again as a separate event, this
time to be hosted by INRIA in Sophia-Antipolis, France, in September
2007.

Submission & proceedings:

Submissions to the workshop will be judged on the basis of
originality, relevance, technical soundness and presentation
quality. Submissions should not be previously published or
concurrently submitted to other workshops or conferences. Papers
should be written in English and not exceed 15 pages in ENTCS
format. Selected papers will be published in Electronic Notes in
Theoretical Computer Science as post-proceedings. Note that to
encourage submission of work still in progress, we may also accept
promising papers to be presented at the workshop, and accept them
conditionally for inclusion in the ENTCS proceedings. Submission of
papers will be in electronic form via an online system; detailed
instructions will be posted on the workshop website. The final
version of the paper must be prepared in LaTeX, adhering to the
ENTCS format (see http://www.entcs.org/final.html).
