OT...but photographicHi all, I am VERY tempted by a "trade in" at my local friendly photographic dealer. He has just taken in in part exchange a Mamiya RB kit. The kit consists of : A well used but sound RB67 body with waist level finder. An optically sound but cosmetically challenged 90mm f3.8 lens. This lens has lots of paint missing on F stop ring etc. A good condition 50mm f4.5 lens A Very good/excellent 180mm lens. 220 back. another spare back. plus a Polaroid back. Hoods, 3 focussing screens and other odds and ends. NO g,tee, cost..what he gave for it £300.00/$600. I do NOT need another camera BUT...... What do you all think? Re: OT...but photographicHi John, Although I have never used MF I can immagine this offer is tempting. Try to talk the price down a little more and go for it if you like doing MF. Hmm, I think you should consider my Pentax 6x7 kit ;) But seriously, if you are tempted, it's on Ebay right now, with no bids yet, so I'd consider ending them early for a sensible offer. I don't expect to get the BINs for the lenses. Items 110269023916, 110268988701 and 110269002952 Bigger pictures of everything in my fotopic gallery (linked in the auctions). Taken with an E-330 and 35/3.5 macro. ============================================== List usage info: http://www.zuikoholic.com List nannies: olympusadmin@... ============================================== |

Re: OT...but photographicSeems to compare reasonably well with RB prices at keh.com. But from
your description of the 90mm lens it sounds like KEH "UGly" which sells for USD 25. KEH BGN grade, however, goes for $105. Maybe that's a bargaining point. KEH seems to have nearly 30 bodies or body + lens kits in stock + about 50 lenses. <http://www.keh.com/OnLineStore/ProductList.aspx?Mode=searchproducts&item=80&ActivateTOC2=false&ID=&BC=&BCC=&CC=&CCC=&BCL=&GBC=&GCC=&KW=Mamiya%20RB67%20SLR> Chuck Norcutt JOHN DUGGAN wrote: > Hi all, > I am VERY tempted by a "trade in" at my local friendly > photographic dealer. Re: OT...but photographicI started buying a bit of RB67 gear a few years back. The price seems reasonable as long as everything works ok. Can you borrow and test it before handing over the cash ? I wouldn't worry too much about the cosmetic condition, these machines were mainly used by working pros who just treated them as tools and expected them to continue working. The 50/90/180 combination is the "standard" kit and will probably cover all your needs. You might want to investigate 120 backs (or the 6x8 120/220 motorised back !) as this opens up a wider range of film stock. Once you see your first roll of 'chromes on a light box you'll be convinced you did the right thing. ...Wayne > > Hi all, > I am VERY tempted by a "trade in" at my local friendly > photographic dealer. Re: OT...but photographicMamiya still makes lenses for the RB, there have been at least 3 different
generations of RB lenses and the 70's would have been the earliest. I don't have an RB but I have a 645 Super with 1990's era Mamiya lenses and they virtually never flare. I suspect that newer RB lenses would be similar. -- Chris Crawford Photography & Graphic Design Fort Wayne, Indiana http://www.chriscrawfordphoto.com My portfolio http://blog.chriscrawfordphoto.com My latest work! http://www.plumpatrin.com Something the world NEEDS. The "C" lenses are multicoated and the prior series were single coated, the newer KL series are reputed to be marginally better optically. You should be using the appropriate Mamiya hoods with any of these lenses or you can use the compendium style hood which is adjustable to different focal lengths. ...Wayne ============================================== List usage info: http://www.zuikoholic.com List nannies: olympusadmin@... ============================================== |

Re: OT...but photographicWe used the seventies versions, as it was, of course, in the seventies. I understand that things improved, especially with the RZ. Re: OT...but photographicTry looking here: www.Holownia.com for a photographer who uses a 7" x 17" large format camera [a Folmer & Schwing banquet camera made in Rochester, NY between 1915 and 1926] Holownia is a professor and head of thedepartment of fine arts at Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. He has published three books of his photos. Each photo is only marginally smaller than the underlying negative. All are in black and white. I have all three. He autographed his latest one for me yesterday. jh ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jan Steinman" <Jan@...> To: <olympus@...> Sent: Sunday, July 13, 2008 12:31 PM Subject: [OM] Re: OT...but photographic > >> From: JOHN DUGGAN <john.duggan10@...> >> >> I am VERY tempted by a "trade in" at my local friendly >> photographic dealer. Re: OT...but photographicOh nice. I liked the shots of the small pond in different light and weather. Reminds that you don't need to go far. I feel the need for a series. Does the Folmer and Schwing swing, I wondered - doesn't look like it. So I found this - <http://www.clickondavid.com/folmerschwing.html> Pretty. Apparently the 12x20 is more impressive. Where would you get filum for it?! What would a sheet of colour film be worth? Strewth. Andrew Fildes afildes@...
