I finally got my OLPC XO PC, but I'm not selling it :-)

I took mine on my trip to Hawaii last year. The only problem I had was
that the wireless was very slow, and that was NOT the XO's fault.

I'm trying to get someone from the OLPC project for the August meeting.
I'd like to do a hands-on with some of us who have XO's connect on a
mesh network.

It's a great little machine.  I am able to utilize it when I go on
trips where I require a laptop, but I don't want to carry around
something bulky.  And it felt good to help some kids in Africa too.  I
just hope they won't be running Windows on them anytime soon :-(

That's a good idea since In have not heard from my contact at OLPC and
JABR is scheduling another meeting for August.

Actually, the solution is to not use VPNs, but instead to switch to
using server based networking.    Mesh networking is builtin in so if
you don't have infrastructure things still work, this doesn't mean
that infrastructure isn't useful (better).  This page is a good place
to start:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Jabber_server

If you don't want to run your own (private) server, there are some
public servers set up for this.  The OLPC_Boston user group page:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Boston

has info about a public New England servers.

Have fun,
Bill Bogstad
